Grothman Votes To Repeal Obamacare

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) today voted for a reconciliation bill that repeals Obamacare and defunds Planned Parenthood. For the first time, Congress has voted to put a bill on President Barack Obama’s desk that defunds Obamacare. House and Senate Republicans successfully utilized a legislative process, known as reconciliation, to get a full Obamacare repeal bill to the President’s desk. Reconciliation can only be used once in a legislative session and requires a majority in the Senate, unlike all other legislation that requires 60 votes.

“This bill repeals President Obama’s failed health care law and replaces it with real, patient-centered reforms,” said Congressman Grothman. “Harry Reid and Senate Democrats have repeatedly blocked legislation repealing Obamacare for the past five years. Finally, the President will be forced to take action on a full Obamacare repeal bill. Predictably, President Obama has pledged to veto this important legislation.”

“I am proud to support this legislation that completely defunds Planned Parenthood and ensures that horrific abortions are not paid for by American taxpayers,” Grothman said. “The gruesome practices exposed at Planned Parenthood demonstrate the organization is unworthy of taxpayer funds. This legislation instead invests in community health centers, which greatly outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities. These centers provide expanded access to health care for women, men, children and the unborn.”

U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman is serving his first term representing Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Contact his Washington, D.C., office at (202) 225-2476, or online at grothman.house.gov.
