Grothman to Host Town Hall Focusing on Struggles of Small Business Owners

(Washington, D.C.) — Today, Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) announced that he will host a town hall event at the UW-Oshkosh Alumni Center on Aug. 1, 2016. The event will focus on finding solutions to the biggest problems faced by small businesses – including overtaxation, overregulation and lack of access to credit.

The town hall is open to small business owners and residents of the 6th District. President and CEO of the Job Creators Network (JCN) Alfredo Ortiz will also give a presentation at the event explaining his organization’s Bring Small Businesses Back (BSBB) campaign. The Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, through its work as an advocate of small business, industry and a thriving community, will also be a host of the event.

“It’s a fact that small businesses drive the American economy. But as crushing regulations and excessive taxes continue to be handed down, the majority of our Main Street businesses are finding it hard to grow and prosper – even several years out of the Great Recession,” said Congressman Grothman. “In Wisconsin, our small businesses and manufacturing sector are vital to helping the state’s economy survive and thrive.

“As your voice in Congress, I’m working hard to make sure that costly, unnecessarily-complicated government regulations are eliminated and the tax code is reformed. As the backbone of our economy, small business owners and their employees deserve a voice in this process. I encourage these employers, employees and concerned residents to attend this forum to learn more about helping our economy continue to recover.”

“Congressman Grothman’s town hall is an important step in identifying the hurdles faced by small business owners and determining solutions to address them,” said Ortiz.

According to a Job Creators Network (JCN) poll of more than 400 business owners, the state of small business is in far worse shape than topline economic data suggest. It finds that only one in five (19%) small business owners plan to hire additional employees over the next year. Fewer than one in three (27%) responded that doing business over the next year would be easier than the previous one.
