Today, Congressman Glenn Grothman, Congressman Bryan Steil and Congressman Scott Fitzgerald met with workers in Racine County to highlight the impacts of President Biden’s decision to revoke the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline. Wisconsin-based companies Michels Corporation and Precision Pipeline were awarded contracts to build the pipeline.

“For an administration that promised to be moderate, halting construction of the Keystone XL pipeline is a disappointing, divisive attack on thousands of well-paying jobs and an action that informed people realize is bad for the environment. Transporting oil by pipeline is one of the safest ways to do it. This move also frays our relationship with our northern neighbors from Canada and, unfortunately, confirms what this administration’s biggest detractors predicted,” said Grothman.

“With the stroke of a pen, President Biden killed good-paying jobs. In the early days of this new administration, East Coast and California liberals are enacting policies that are bad for Wisconsinites. Maybe to Joe Biden, Wisconsin construction jobs are easy to brush aside, but to the workers I spoke to today, these jobs are their livelihoods. Wisconsin workers are bearing the brunt of this disastrous decision. I will continue fighting for our workers and their families, and oppose Biden’s job killing policy,” said Steil.

“It took the Biden administration all of one day to sharply depart from their message of unity. Just hours after he was sworn into office, President Biden stuck it to Wisconsin workers by stopping construction of the Keystone XL pipeline,” said Fitzgerald. “This project would have secured many good-paying jobs for hardworking people in Wisconsin, helping to lift our economy at a terrible time during the pandemic. The workers I spoke with today at Michels Corp. embody the true American spirit, their work should be rewarded, not destroyed by a misguided executive order from President Biden.”

“I urge President Biden to put American jobs and American energy independence first and reinstate the Keystone XL pipeline permit. Thousands of Wisconsin workers are impacted by this action and all Wisconsinites will be affected at the gas pump,” said Tim Michels, Owner and Vice President of Michels Corporation.
