Grothman’s Bipartisan Bill to Honor Wisconsin State Trooper Trevor Casper Passes Through Committee

Washington, February 6, 2024 | Kyle Amato (202-225-2476)

Today, Congressman Glenn Grothman’s (WI-06) bipartisan legislation to designate the U.S. Post Office located on Fremont Street in Kiel as the “Trooper Trevor J. Casper Post Office Building” has passed through the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. The next step for this bill is a vote on the House floor.

Introduced in September 2023, Grothman led the entire Wisconsin Congressional delegation on this bill, which is comprised of Representatives Tom Tiffany (WI-07), Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Gwen Moore (WI-04), Bryan Steil (WI-01), Mike Gallagher (WI-08), and Mark Pocan (WI-02).

“Trooper Casper’s life was tragically cut short in 2015 as he became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in our state’s history,” said Grothman. “Renaming this post office in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe.

“Trooper Casper’s sacrifice should remind us all of the tremendous debt of gratitude we owe to our law enforcement officers. Let us remember Trooper Casper’s heroism and his dedication to duty, and let us honor his memory by supporting those who continue to serve and protect our great state of Wisconsin.”

“I now strongly urge House leadership to take up this bipartisan bill so we can forever remember the life and legacy of Trooper Trevor Casper.”

Background Information

On March 24, 2015, Trevor J. Casper tragically became the youngest police officer killed in the line of duty in Wisconsin history. While faithfully serving his community on his first solo assignment, Trevor was shot and killed in Fond du Lac attempting to apprehend a bank robbery and murder suspect.

Months before his death, Trevor fulfilled his dream by graduating from the State Patrol Academy and being stationed at the State Trooper Base in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Born on May 21, 1993, Trevor was a staple in the Kiel community through wrestling, soccer, and coaching youth sports. After graduating from Kiel High School with the class of 2011, Trevor attended Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2014. He was active in the Color Guard and held the position of President of the LTC student government.
