Reflections on the State of the Union: Real Results for Wisconsin Families

This week, I had the chance to watch President Trump deliver his State of the Union address, and it’s clear our country is moving in the right direction. From securing our borders to lowering everyday costs, the Trump Administration is delivering real results that matter to hardworking Americans.

Securing Our Homeland
President Trump has made historic progress on border security and law enforcement. Illegal crossings are at their lowest levels since the 1970s, and millions of illegal aliens have been removed or self-deported. Catch-and-release is finally over, fentanyl trafficking is down by more than half, and major cartels have been designated as terrorist organizations. Communities across Wisconsin and the nation are safer because of these actions.

Restoring the American Dream
Homeownership and housing affordability are on the rise. Mortgage rates are at multi-year lows, rents are declining, and more families are buying homes at discounted prices than we’ve seen in years. President Trump is taking strong steps to ensure Americans, not bureaucrats or foreign buyers, benefit from these opportunities.

Economic Relief
Prices are easing, wages are growing faster than inflation, and families are keeping more of what they earn thanks to historic tax relief. Everyday goods like gas, groceries, and prescription drugs are becoming more affordable, while private-sector jobs are expanding and government bureaucracy is shrinking.

American Energy and National Security
Under President Trump, energy dominance is back. U.S. LNG exports have hit historic highs, drilling permits are up, coal and nuclear are revitalized, and Americans are seeing real savings at the pump. On the world stage, the Administration has restored respect for the U.S., ended long-standing conflicts, captured criminals, and strengthened our military to keep our families safe.

Law and Order Restored
Violent crime is down across the country, with murder rates at historic lows in major cities. These gains show that strong enforcement, smart policies, and accountability work, and they benefit every American.

President Trump’s focus is clear: secure borders, strong families, a thriving economy, and safe communities. The work isn’t done, but the direction is right, and it’s encouraging to see progress we can all feel in our daily lives.

Vice President JD Vance Visits Plover, Wisconsin

Last Thursday, I joined Vice President JD Vance in Plover, Wisconsin, along with other members of the Wisconsin delegation. It was a great opportunity to hear directly from the Vice President in our home state about issues affecting Wisconsin families and communities.

Vice President Vance spoke about a moment from the recent State of the Union involving Dalilah Coleman, a young girl who survived a serious accident with an illegal immigrant. Seeing her reunited with her father was a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of families and the importance of accountability and safety in our communities.

He also discussed Wisconsin’s handling of SNAP and voter roll data. The Vice President noted that Governor Tony Evers’ administration has refused to share critical information with the federal government, underscoring the need for accurate records to ensure programs are properly administered and benefits reach those who truly need them.

It was an informative visit and a good chance to discuss the challenges and priorities that matter to Wisconsin families, public safety, and the effective administration of state and federal programs.

I had a great meeting with leaders from AIPAC this week.

We discussed the growing threats facing Israel and the importance of standing with the Iranian people against their current regime that finds terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah.

The U.S.-Israel alliance is critical to our national security. I remain committed to supporting Israel and strengthening our defense cooperation.

I had a productive meeting with National Energy and Utility Affordability Coalition this week.

We discussed the challenges vulnerable households face when it comes to rising energy costs and ways to ensure families can access reliable utility service. Keeping energy affordable is essential to helping people live safely and independently.

It was great stopping by the Grafton St. Joseph Fish Fry last Friday night!

It's always good to see friends and neighbors coming together for great food and even better conversation. Thanks to everyone who helps make these community traditions possible.

I enjoyed spending an evening at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Lenten Fish Fry in Plymouth.

Thank you to the volunteers and organizers who put in the work behind the scenes to make it a success, and to the many friends and families who came out to support a great local tradition and spend time together.

I had a great time at the Fond du Lac Blades/Team USA Synchronized Skating End of Season Skate at the Blue Line Family Ice Center.

The Blades represented Team USA in the Netherlands and Poland this season, and it was inspiring to see them skating alongside younger generations. It was also great to support a local cause by collecting donations for the Drexel Homeless Shelter.
