Border Apprehensions in May
In the month of May, just one month, there were over 144,000 apprehensions at our Southern border.

During my recent trip to the border in Texas, border patrol agents showed us the facilities where people illegally crossing the border are processed. I asked one of the agents how long it took to process one person, and she told me it took about one hour. This means that agents spent 144,000 hours processing illegal immigrants last month. This falls in line with what the agents told me about how much manpower is taken off of the actual border to complete all of this paperwork.

One of the the things I didn't realize, but makes sense, is that since the drug cartels control the border, almost no one gets across without their help. The cartels charge up to $5,000 to help a child across the border and up to $10,000 for an adult. This has resulted in an estimated $2.3 billion in revenues to the cartels.

What's even worse is how these people are being treated. In order to minimize costs, cartels often hide people in over-crowded, run-down stash houses with only one "meal" of lunch meat per day. If this weren't horrible enough, the pediatrician at the unaccompanied minor facility I visited in Driscoll, TX told me that 40 percent of the girls ages 12-17 who arrived at their facility had been sexually abused, a number on par with other facilities.

The reason we have seen an explosion of illegal border crossers and a worsening of the humanitarian crisis at the border is because we have states, individuals and elected officials who refuse to enforce our immigration laws, creating an incentive for the situation we are in.

Many of my colleagues have not seen the border firsthand. The real story of what is happening at the border needs to be told. That is why I took to the House Floor this week to speak to other members of Congress and tell them about just how dire this crisis has become.

Younger Onset Alzheimer's Act
Alzheimer's is a devastating disease that affects the lives of far too many families. I have been an active voice for Alzheimer's detection, prevention and treatment, and with every heartbreaking story I hear when travelling the 6th District, I grow more determined to help those suffering from Alzheimer's.

Unfortunately, those diagnosed with this disease under the age of 60 do not receive the same access to assistance as those 60 and over. That is what I aim to change by cosponsoring the bipartisan Younger Onset Alzheimer's Act (H.R. 1903). This bill will ensure that those suffering from this tragic disease will receive the care they deserve.

Dairy Month

As you may know, June is Dairy Month. As a lifelong Wisconsinite, I am proud to boast Wisconsin's famous dairy industry as the best in the world!

During Dairy Month, many local communities hold a "Breakfast on the Farm". If you've never been to one, you can read about them by clicking here.

Tomorrow, the 6th District has two breakfasts in Sheboygan Falls and Arlington. Ripon FFA is having a breakfast on Sunday, June 16. Also, Fond du Lac County is holding theirs on June 23 and Waushara County’s is on June 30.
