Yesterday, I voted for the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act and Kate's Law, two bills that help keep our country secure.
The No Sanctuary for Criminal Act cuts off certain federal grants to the so-called sanctuary cities that defy federal immigration laws by refusing to turn over criminal illegal immigrants to authorities. Instead, certain grants from the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security would be reallocated to states and cities that comply with federal law.
The bill also ensures that illegal immigrants convicted of dangerous crimes are detained during their removal proceedings.
Kate's Law increases mandatory penalties for immigrants who re-enter the U.S. after being deported. The law is named for 32-year-old Kate Steinle, who was randomly gunned down in the sanctuary city of San Francisco by a criminal illegal immigrant with seven prior felony convictions and five deportations.

Congressional Art Competition |
Each year, the U.S. House of Representatives sponsors a nation-wide high school arts competition. The competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in our nation, and the winners from each congressional district have their artwork displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
Sedona Spaeth of Two Rivers is our winner from Wisconsin's Sixth District. Sedona and her mother visited D.C. this week to attend a reception for all the winners and see her painting on display. Congratulations, Sedona!

Speaker Ryans says it best: "Despite what you may hear, we are getting things done."
So far this Congress, President Trump has signed into law legislation that:
- reforms the Department of Veterans Affairs;
- delivers a record amount of relief from Obama-era regulations;
- increases border security;
- increases defense funding;
- increases resources for fighting the opioid epidemic;
- expands school choice;
- and increases pro-life protections.
And the House has passed the repeal and replacement of Obamacare, the replacement of Dodd-Frank and a jobs bill for skilled workers, among other legislation.
As the 115th Congress continues, we'll keep working to make Americans' lives better.
