Breaking Down Barriers to Work

At the “Less Red Tape, More Opportunity: Unleashing American Workers and Job Creators” Education and Workforce Subcommittee hearing, I raised the importance of making sure people with disabilities have the opportunity to work, build skills, and contribute to their communities.

Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act allows certified employers to provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities that best fit their needs. I have several workplaces in my district that participate in this program, and I have seen firsthand how meaningful these opportunities are for the people they serve.

When you visit one of these workplaces, you see people who are happy to be working and proud of what they are accomplishing. They are learning skills, building confidence, developing routines, and making a contribution. These opportunities can make a real difference in someone's life.

During the hearing, I asked whether people with disabilities should be able to work in places like this if that is what they want, and what their parents or guardians believe is best for them. The witness agreed that people with disabilities should have the opportunity to work and gain valuable experience.

I have introduced the Restoration of Employment Choice for Adults with Disabilities Act to help remove barriers that can prevent young adults with disabilities from entering the workforce. The bill would amend the Rehabilitation Act to ensure greater workplace choice and opportunity for young adults with disabilities.

It's hard to believe, but some politicians in Washington want to deprive these individuals from having these options. I believe people with disabilities deserve the opportunity to work, develop their skills, and contribute to their communities. We should not put unnecessary barriers in the way of people who are ready and willing to work.

I will continue working to make sure Wisconsinites with disabilities have the freedom to pursue the opportunities that are right for them.

Keeping the Government Open

I voted to pass the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027, which will keep the federal government open through December 11 while Congress continues working to complete the full-year appropriations process.

Shutting down the government is not a solution. It creates uncertainty for hardworking families, small businesses, our military, and federal employees, while costing taxpayers money. We should not use government funding as a political bargaining chip.

This clean bill keeps the government operating without adding unnecessary provisions or partisan wish lists. It gives Congress additional time to finish the appropriations process while providing the certainty Americans deserve.

I will continue working to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and that Congress does its job of funding the government.

Apply Today: The Congressional Award

Young people across Wisconsin’s Sixth District have an opportunity to earn one of the highest honors Congress offers to young Americans: The Congressional Award.

The program is nonpartisan, voluntary, and noncompetitive. Participants set personally challenging goals in four areas - Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration - and work toward those goals at their own pace.

No nomination or minimum GPA is required, and participants can build the program around interests they already have or use it as an opportunity to try something new. Young people can register beginning at age 13½ and participate through age 23, with Bronze, Silver, and Gold Certificates and Medals available for those who complete their goals.

If you are a young person looking for a meaningful challenge and an opportunity to earn recognition from the United States Congress, I encourage you to learn more and get started.

Weekly Roundup

On Monday, we celebrate the American workers who keep our communities strong and our economy moving.

From the factory floor to the family farm, Wisconsin workers have built a reputation for hard work, skill, and dedication. I am proud to represent a district with so many hardworking men and women who contribute to our state and our country every day.

This Labor Day, we recognize and thank them for all they do.

I enjoyed joining the Fond du Lac community for the American Legion’s Annual Corn Roast.

The American Legion plays an important role in supporting our veterans and keeping our communities connected. It was good to spend some time with the members of Trier-Puddy American Legion Post 75 and everyone who came out for the event.

Congratulations to Gabriel on earning the rank of Eagle Scout!

Reaching Eagle Scout takes commitment, hard work, and leadership. It was an honor to join Gabriel, his family, and the Waupun community to celebrate this well deserved accomplishment.

I wish Gabriel all the best in his future endeavors.

It was a pleasure to join the Waushara County community for the Food Pantry Charity Dinner.

The work local food pantries do to help neighbors in need is incredibly important, and I appreciate everyone who came together to support this effort.
