USMCA
Earlier this week, the administration announced the completion of its revised trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA. This trade agreement with our neighbors is great news for farmers and manufacturers throughout Wisconsin who rely on the availability of foreign markets for success.

Most importantly, the trade deal is good news for dairy farmers in Wisconsin who have struggled significantly over recent months. The deal will allow the US to export the equivalent of 3.6% of Canada's dairy market, up from the existing level of about 1%. Additionally, Canada eliminated its Class 6 and 7 pricing systems which allowed low priced dairy ingredients to undersell United States dairy sales in Canada.

Overall, the deal gives the United States more access to Canada and Mexico's markets which creates more of a level playing field for American farmers and businesses. I look forward to reading the full text of the deal and examining in detail the benefits it will provide Wisconsinites and Americans as a whole.

Unemployment Rate
Last month, the unemployment rate fell to 3.7%, its lowest level since 1969. The last time unemployment was this low, I was in my freshman year of high school. In addition to the remarkable unemployment rate, average hourly earnings across the country went up 2.8%.

Less people in Wisconsin and throughout the country are having difficulty finding high-paying job opportunities thanks to a legislative agenda that has promoted pro-growth economic policies. It is so great to see the economy flourishing once again and providing opportunities and relief to Americans across the board.

Although the economy is doing excellently and unemployment rates are at record lows, the amount of jobs added to the economy in September did not keep up with the outstanding pace we witnessed in August. Much of this is still due to a lack of skilled workers throughout the country. While our economy remains strong, there is still work to be done to advance and modernize our workforce in order to ensure continued growth and success.

Postal Service Update
The investigation into missing mail from the Neenah-Menasha area in the 6th district remains unsolved. The US Postal Service has been working actively with its operations in the area and its distribution center in Milwaukee to try to find a solution to the problem. My staff has been in contact with the Postal Service and has received updates on the investigation and their efforts. Here's what we know.
  • The entire Milwaukee Processing and Distribution Center has been searched
  • The truck driver that picked up the mail from the Neenah Post Office has been interviewed
  • The employees who handled the mail and unloaded the truck at the distribution center have been interviewed
  • All facilities within the Lakeland District have been searched and notified of the situation
  • All trailers at each facility have been searched, including those that only store equipment
  • The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has been contacted and is now heading the investigation
As we receive more news from the postal service, we will continue to keep you updated on the situation. Feel free to contact my Fond du Lac office with any further questions or inquiries.

Weekly Roundup
Last week, the House passed bipartisan legislation to help tackle the opioid epidemic and develop a strategy to resolve the crisis. The bill is headed to the President’s desk and includes my legislation to establish a federal inter-agency task force to further address this issue.

It was such a pleasure speaking with and meeting the team from Green Valley Enterprises. Their organization does outstanding work for individuals with special needs, opening them up to employment opportunities and helping them reach their true potential.

Happy Manufacturing Day! Today, we celebrate the manufacturing industry, the thousands of jobs it creates every year, and the growth and productivity it brings to our prospering economy. This week, I celebrated Manufacturing Day with the individuals from New Holland Agriculture in St. Nazianz.
