Congress Votes to Freeze Its Own Pay

On June 10, Congressman Grothman voted for the second year in a row to freeze pay for members of Congress through the Legislative Branch appropriations bill. This pay freeze prevents Representatives from increasing their pay for fiscal year 2017. While pay raises for members of Congress are set to occur every year, Republicans have voted to freeze congressional member salaries every year since taking control of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2011. Additionally, since Republicans have taken control of the House, they have cut the cost of Congress by 13 percent.
