Oversight Subcommittee Hearing: Lowering the Cost of Healthcare

This week, I chaired a joint hearing of the Health Care and Financial Services Subcommittee and the Economic Growth Subcommittee to address one of the biggest challenges facing families today: the rising cost of health care.

Health spending has surged to $4.9 trillion, nearly 18% of our economy, yet Americans aren’t seeing better outcomes. Nearly one-third of this spending, over $1.6 trillion, is waste, driven largely by administrative bloat and layers of bureaucracy that burden providers and drive up prices for patients.

At the same time, patients rarely know what a procedure will cost. No other part of our economy operates with this level of price ambiguity.

Our hearing examined how innovative technology can reduce administrative waste, increase price transparency, and direct more resources to actual patient care. These tools have the potential to lower costs, empower patients, and strengthen competition.

I appreciate our witnesses for outlining how Congress can help advance these solutions and make health care more affordable for every American.

House Passes FY26 NDAA, Delivering Major Wins for America’s Security

This week, the House passed the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act - a major win for our national security and for the men and women in uniform. This bill reflects President Trump’s Peace Through Strength vision and gets our military back to basics: lethality, merit, and accountability.

The FY26 NDAA strengthens our border security, gives servicemembers a 3.8 percent pay raise, and takes meaningful steps to revitalize American shipbuilding and our broader defense industrial base. It also codifies all or parts of 15 of President Trump’s executive orders, along with 30 legislative proposals requested by the Trump Administration, ensuring our military is focused on readiness and capability.

We also continue delivering results for families at home. The Working Families Tax Cuts made historic investments in securing our border, and under President Trump’s leadership, the United States ended eight wars and refocused our military on protecting American interests.

This NDAA strengthens our forces, rebuilds readiness, and helps bring critical manufacturing jobs back to American soil. It also supports top priorities like the Golden Dome, F-47 fighter, submarines, warships, and cutting-edge defense systems.

I was proud to support this year’s NDAA, which keeps our nation strong, restores common sense to the Pentagon, and ensures our troops have the tools they need to keep America safe.

Affordability Check-In

Affordability continues to be one of the most important issues people are watching in communities across America. I am committed to backing efforts that encourage greater economic stability and relief for working families. As we continue to see great economic strides under current leadership, it’s important to hear how you feel about the direction of prices and the overall economy. Your input helps shape my priorities in Congress.

Announcing the 2025 Congressional App Challenge Winner

Each year, the Congressional App Challenge highlights the creativity of students across Wisconsin’s Sixth District. I’m proud to announce this year’s winner: Clayton Walters of Neenah High School for his app, “Wisconsin Native Landscaping Helper.”

Clayton’s app helps homeowners and gardeners make smart choices about native landscaping. It includes a short quiz guiding users toward a prairie-style or structured garden while considering local regulations and safety for children or pets. It also lets users explore 21 common non-native plants, showing whether they are invasive and offering two native alternatives.

🎉Congratulations to Clayton for his impressive work and for representing our district so well.

I was honored to be recognized by NumbersUSA with an A grade on their immigration scorecard this year. It was a privilege to attend their awards reception alongside other Members of Congress who share a commitment to commonsense immigration policies that protect our communities. I’ll continue working to ensure our laws are enforced and our communities are safe.

I recently had the chance to cheer on the construction apprentices from our district at the Associated Builders and Contractors Wisconsin Skills Competition. These talented young people are competing for the chance to represent Wisconsin at the national championship next year. I’m proud to keep supporting opportunities for people to build successful careers in construction.

I joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Oshkosh Chamber for a roundtable on the pro-growth business tax provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. It was a great opportunity to hear from local business owners about how these policies are creating new opportunities for Wisconsin workers and helping our businesses stay competitive. Discussions like this are vital to supporting economic growth and ensuring our communities continue to thrive.

I had the pleasure of visiting Menominee Elementary School in Oshkosh, where I saw firsthand the dedication of teachers and staff helping students learn and grow every day. It’s inspiring to see our kids engaged in their education and developing the skills they need for a bright future. Wisconsin schools like Menominee Elementary are shaping the next generation, and it was great to witness their hard work in action.
