Government Reopens After Needless Shutdown

After the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history, I’m glad to see the government finally reopen. Unfortunately, it should never have come to this.

Senate Democrats forced the American people through weeks of uncertainty, only to accept the same deal that was available before the shutdown began. For nearly six weeks, families, federal workers, and those relying on programs like SNAP and WIC were used as political leverage to appease the radical wing of their party.

House Republicans acted responsibly from the start, we passed a clean funding bill to keep the government open, protect taxpayers, and ensure critical programs remained funded. I’ll continue fighting to bring common sense back to Washington, so the American people are never used as pawns in another avoidable political standoff.

Medicare Open Enrollment Now Underway

I want to take a moment to provide you with an update regarding Medicare Open Enrollment and share some helpful information.

The Medicare Open Enrollment period began on October 15 and will remain open until December 7. If you are 65 or older and eligible for Medicare, this is an important opportunity to review your coverage. During Open Enrollment, you can switch plans, drop plans, or join a new plan based on your needs and preferences.

Please note that individuals who do not enroll during their Initial Enrollment Period and who do not qualify for a Special Enrollment Period may face lifetime penalties, resulting in higher monthly premiums. To avoid these added costs, it is essential to be aware of deadlines, monitor the status of your application, and make any necessary updates to your coverage.

If you are unsure about your eligibility or plan options, I encourage you to contact a representative at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services or the Social Security Administration for guidance tailored to your situation. Staying informed during Open Enrollment can help ensure you have the coverage you need to support your health and well-being.

ICYMI: Live with Jay Weber

Last week, I joined Jay Weber on News/Talk 1130 WISN to discuss the agreement that officially ended the government shutdown. I appreciated the opportunity to speak with Jay and his listeners about how long it took to reach a deal that had been on the table for weeks, and what lies ahead as Congress works to rein in spending and deliver better results for the American people.

Weekly Roundup

On Monday, we celebrated the United States Marine Corps's 250th birthday.

For 250 years, Marines have stood on the front lines of freedom, defending American values at home and across the globe.

To every Marine who has served or currently serves, and to the families who stand behind them: thank you. We are forever grateful for your courage and sacrifice.

I recently toured Orange Cross Ambulance and joined their team for a ride-along to see firsthand how our first responders serve our communities every day. It was inspiring to witness their commitment to keeping our neighbors safe. I’m deeply grateful for the lifesaving work they do across Wisconsin’s Sixth District.

I had a great visit to Sheboygan Lutheran High School, where I had the opportunity to speak with students in a U.S. Government class. The students’ thoughtful questions and enthusiasm were a reminder of the bright future ahead for our district. It’s always encouraging to see young people engaged and eager to make a difference in their communities.
