Assistant Secretary Collett |
This week, I had the pleasure of hosting Assistant Secretary of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services, Johnny Collett, to the 6th district to tour work centers specialized in providing employment opportunities and rehabilitation services to those with disabilities.
Creating meaningful opportunities for these individuals is so important and I was so pleased to have Assistant Secretary Collett with me to see all the progress being made in Wisconsin. I have long advocated for increasing efforts to help those with special needs find employment and workplace opportunities.
The Assistant Secretary and I visited three different work centers, Brooke Industries, RCS Empowers, and Lakeside Packaging Plus. These organizations offer a wide variety of services to those with special needs and their families so that they have the opportunity to lead lives of fulfillment. This week, Social Security announced a 2.8 percent increase in benefits for more than 67 million Americans throughout the country. This increase will change the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax from $128,400 to $132,900.
The increase will begin in January of 2019 and beneficiaries will be notified of the increase by mail in December. This increase is long overdue and its great to see our government providing some support to Social Security beneficiaries. To learn more click here. |
Happy National Farmer's Day! Today, we celebrate farmers across Wisconsin and throughout the country for their hard work, resilience, and determination to help feed our nation. I will always advocate for farmers as they represent such a critical part of our country.
