I introduced the Ending Discrimination in Government Contracting Act to make sure federal contracts are awarded based on merit, not race or sex. For too long, Washington has pushed DEI mandates and quotas that put politics ahead of quality and value for taxpayers. That’s unfair to businesses who can offer better products at lower costs and still lose out because of identity-based preferences.
This bill restores equal treatment under the law by ending discriminatory contracting requirements across the federal government. It eliminates race- and sex-based quotas, repeals DEI preferences tied to federal transportation grants, removes burdensome reporting requirements on small businesses, and prevents agencies from bringing these policies back in the future.
I’m proud to lead this effort, alongside Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), to restore accountability, reduce waste, and ensure government contracts are awarded based on ability and performance, not identity politics.

During National Small Business Week, I had a great opportunity to visit Sadoff Iron & Metal in Fond du Lac and learn more about the company’s operation and long history in Wisconsin. I also appreciated hearing from the owner, Mark, about the values that have helped guide the company for generations.
Sadoff Iron & Metal plays an important role in Wisconsin’s manufacturing and recycling industries. The company specializes in scrap metal recycling, electronics recycling, and auto salvage, helping businesses responsibly process and reuse materials that would otherwise go to waste. Their work supports steel mills, foundries, and manufacturers across the region.
For 79 years and across three generations, this family-owned business has been a strong example of what makes Wisconsin small businesses so important to our communities and economy. Their success has been built on hard work, keeping the business in the family, and creating a workplace centered around a team mentality where people who want to do good work can succeed together.
I especially appreciated hearing about the company’s commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and being good stewards of the land. It is clear they take pride not only in the work they do, but also in building a strong team and contributing to the community around them.
Businesses like Sadoff are the backbone of Wisconsin. They strengthen local communities and pass down values and opportunities from one generation to the next. It was great learning more about the company, its employees, and the principles that have helped it grow and succeed for nearly eight decades.

I was proud to write a letter supporting the City of Manitowoc’s application for federal funding to strengthen operations at the Port of Manitowoc. Now, I’m pleased that Manitowoc was officially awarded the $20 million grant, thanks to support from the Trump Administration, for a major infrastructure upgrade right in Wisconsin’s Sixth District.
The Port of Manitowoc plays an important role in moving goods throughout our region and supporting jobs across Wisconsin. This investment will help strengthen our supply chains, improve efficiency for farmers and manufacturers, and ensure businesses can continue getting products where they need to go in a reliable and cost-effective way.
Projects like this are important for the long-term growth of our state. Strong infrastructure supports economic development, helps local businesses compete, and creates good-paying jobs for Wisconsin workers. I’ll continue working to support investments that deliver real results for families, workers, and businesses throughout the Sixth District.

On Mother’s Day, I’m especially grateful for my mother, Joan, who taught me the importance of hard work, honesty, and doing what’s right.
Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my life and continue to guide my service in Congress.
Wishing every mother a very happy Mother’s Day!

Congratulations to Spark Ops Metalworks and owners Maria and Bryan Perl on being named Wisconsin’s Small Business Manufacturer of the Year by the Small Business Administration during Small Business Week.
In just a few short years, this Fond du Lac business has grown rapidly and is now contributing to major projects across the country, from Super Bowls to the World Cup.
This is exactly what makes Wisconsin special: hardworking entrepreneurs building something from the ground up, creating jobs, and putting our state on the map.
We’re proud to have you in the district!

It was great to join the Mequon–Thiensville Chamber luncheon recently and connect with local business leaders.
Wisconsin runs on the strength of small businesses and family-run employers who know their communities best.
I appreciate the Chamber for bringing folks together!

I appreciated the chance to speak with juniors at Mishicot High School.
We covered my role in Congress and took a great round of student questions on how government works and what public service looks like in practice.
Thanks to the school for hosting, and the great questions and strong civic engagement from these students!

On Friday we marked Victory in Europe Day - when Allied forces defeated Nazi Germany and brought an end to the war in Europe.
We honor those whose courage and sacrifice secured freedom for the world. Their legacy still stands as a reminder of what American strength can accomplish.
|
Friday was Military Spouse Appreciation Day. We recognized the men and women who serve our country in a different but vital way - by holding down the home front while their spouses wear the uniform.
These families carry real sacrifices so our military can stay strong and ready. That deserves respect, not just one day of recognition but steady support.
