Wisconsin Healthcare

This week, I was grateful to visit the Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Ozaukee County. It was great to see their top notch facilities and engage with even better doctors and staff.

While there, I also had the opportunity to meet with members of the Wisconsin Hospital Association from around Wisconsin's Sixth District, including Ascension, Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, Columbus Community Hospital, Children's Hospital of WI and Froedtert Hospital. We discussed legislation that has been proposed in both the House and Senate to curb surprise medical billing.

As you may know, surprise billing occurs when a patient receives care from a facility that is within their insurance network, but in the course of treatment, care is administered by a healthcare provider who is outside of their insurance network. Surprise billing is a serious issue that affects many Americans. I hope my colleagues in Congress will soon realize that surprise billing must be addressed quickly.

The health and well-being of the people of Wisconsin's Sixth District is one of my top priorities. In Washington, I will continue to be an effective voice for patient-centered health care reforms that aim to prevent surprise billing and empower individuals to make the best decisions for their health. I look forward to collaborating with our district's finest partners as we strive to safeguard our fellow Wisconsinites from encountering further unwanted surprises.

Congratulations, Lakeshore Tech
Congratulations to Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) for earning the number 2 ranking nationwide for 2-year colleges for adult learners according to Washington Monthly. As a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor, I am proud to represent LTC as one of the great educational
institutions in Wisconsin's Sixth District.

LTC prepares students for careers in our skilled workforce, while also striving to find innovative ways to address our nation's severe skilled labor shortage. It is vital that other schools follow LTC's lead by equipping students with the skills necessary to obtain good-paying jobs in the skilled workforce. Going forward, I am sure that the future of career and technical education is bright.

Keep up the great work, LTC!

Service Academy Nominations
As your Representative, I have the honor of nominating up to ten candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: the U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.

The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. If you are interested in learning more about our nation's military service academies, I encourage you to join the Service Academy Day at the EEA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh on Saturday, September 7 from 9:00am to 12:30pm.

If you would like to request a military academy nomination from our office, please complete the application packet and return to our Fond du Lac office by Friday, October 11, 2019. For more information, click here or contact our Fond du Lac office at 920-907-0624. I wish you the best as you pursue your goal of attending one of the U.S. service academies and serving our country.

Weekly Roundup
Did you know that the water tanks in many fire trucks are made of reinforced plastic? Your local fire station may have one made at UPF United Plastic Fabricating in Neenah. That’s what I call fantastic plastic!

Creative Metal Products in Neenah is a locally owned company and will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year. Thanks for the tour!

Thanks Apricity for employing folks around Wisconsin who are recovering from substance use disorders. It was encouraging to see how our great state is at the forefront of the sober movement by offering individuals such a unique opportunity forward.

I loved visiting the welcoming residents and staff at the Landmark at Charleston House in Beaver Dam to discuss the future of patient-centered health care reforms and best care services for Wisconsin's Sixth District's valued senior citizens.

I enjoyed speaking with the Beaver Dam Rotary about how we are working in Washington to beat the burden of student loan debt for our fellow Wisconsinites.
