Today is National Manufacturing Day. I am proud of our manufacturing community - it is the backbone of our economy in the 6th district. Throughout Wisconsin, and around the country manufacturers are creating jobs, spurring innovation and economic growth. As the Congressman for the number one congressional district in the country for manufacturing jobs, I look forward to working with my colleagues in Washington to continue supporting growth around the country.

Question of the week
Hearing from Wisconsin residents when it comes to important issues like Social Security Disability Insurance is important to me. Click here to answer the question of the week.

The Social Security Disability Insurance Program is set to go bankrupt in 2016. The President has suggested Congress take money from the Social Security funds that seniors receive to shore up the Social Security Disability Insurance Trust Fund. Do you think Congress should do this?

Legislation
I recently introduced legislation to designate the U.S. Post Office located on West 2nd Street in Fond du Lac as the "Lieutenant Colonel James 'Maggie' Megellas Post Office.”

I am proud to pay tribute to Lieutenant Colonel Magellas’s sacrificial service to our country. This post office will serve as a reminder and inspiration to our community of his brave heroism and dedication to serving our country. Read more here.

Oversight and Government Reform Committee
This week, in the Oversight and Government Reform committee we addressed the issues surrounding Planned Parenthood’s harvesting of baby parts. In our committee we focused on the amount of funding Planned Parenthood Federation of America receives from the federal government. According to the Congressional Budget Office PPFA receives approximately $450 million annually, this means that 41% of PPFA’s budget comes from taxpayers. It’s absolutely horrific that taxpayer funds would be used to harvest baby body parts. I look forward to the committee continuing its full investigation into the way PPFA spends taxpayer funds. Watch the full committee hearing here.

Education and the Workforce Committee
The subcommittee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions reviewed a bill this week that would stop the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) expansion of the joint employer standard. The NRLB overturned a decades long policy that would specifically hurt small businesses, especially franchisee owners, and consolidate power in corporations and large businesses. H.R. 3459, the Protecting Local Business Opportunity Act will roll-back this harmful regulation handed down by President Obama’s partisan board. Watch my questioning in committee by clicking here.

Joint Economic Committee
The hearing in Joint Economic Committee this week examined the cost and affordability of higher education. We all know that college is becoming more and more expensive. The Honorable Mitch Daniels, former Governor of Indiana and President of Perdue University, testified at this hearing about how an initiative he developed at Perdue University resulted in a $50 million reduction in student debt since 2012.

As your Congressman, I’m here to serve you. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to my offices in Fond du Lac and Washington. If you enjoyed this newsletter be sure to forward it to your family and friends so they can stay informed on what I’m doing in Washington and the 6th District.

Sincerely,

Glenn Grothman
United States Representative
