Advancing the Ensuring Workers Get PAID Act

This week, during our Education and Workforce Committee markup, the committee advanced my legislation, the Ensuring Workers Get PAID Act, an important step toward strengthening protections for both workers and small businesses.

The PAID program has a proven track record of helping employees receive the wages they are owed quickly while giving well-intentioned employers a fair, efficient way to correct mistakes without lengthy investigations or costly litigation. When the Biden Administration eliminated this program, it created unnecessary hurdles for workers seeking timely resolutions and for small businesses striving to stay compliant.

By codifying President Trump’s reinstatement of this successful program, we can provide a clearer, streamlined path to resolving wage issues, support relationships between employers and employees, and ensure our workforce is treated fairly without burdening job creators with additional red tape.

Judiciary Committee Markup: Advancing Public Safety and Border Security

This week, the Judiciary Committee held a markup where we advanced several important measures to strengthen public safety, secure our borders, and support law enforcement. I was proud to help move these commonsense bills forward.

During the markup, we passed legislation to:

  • Protect law enforcement animals, including CBP’s hardworking K-9 units, by ensuring individuals who harm them cannot enter or remain in the United States.

  • Fast-track the removal of criminal aliens, including gang members, violent felons, sex offenders, domestic abusers, and child predators.

  • Require faster completion of immigration removal proceedings, ending the years-long delays that have allowed dangerous individuals to remain in the country while their cases languish.

  • Support law enforcement by improving access to modern, less-than-lethal tools that help officers safely de-escalate volatile situations.

  • Increase transparency in U.S. courts by exposing foreign entities attempting to secretly finance or influence civil litigation.

These are meaningful steps that back the blue, restore the rule of law, and keep American families safe. I’ll continue fighting for policies that strengthen our communities and uphold the security of our nation.

The GUARD Act

This week, I joined a bipartisan group of colleagues in supporting the GUARD Act, a bill designed to crack down on financial fraud scams that are increasingly targeting older Americans. Criminals are using new and sophisticated tactics to deceive retirees, often luring them into fake investment opportunities before stealing their life savings. In 2022 alone, these schemes resulted in more than $1 billion in reported losses, with seniors bearing the brunt of the harm.

The GUARD Act will give state and local law enforcement the tools they need to investigate these crimes. Right now, many of these cases never get fully investigated because local departments are overwhelmed and lack the resources or technical capability to pursue them. This bill ensures they are no longer left on their own and can work hand-in-hand with federal partners when needed.

I’m proud to support this bipartisan effort because no retiree should lose their hard-earned savings to criminals hiding behind a screen. Protecting Wisconsin seniors and holding fraudsters accountable will always be a top priority for me.
