The Jobs Act
We have record-low unemployment rates and our economy is booming, especially here at home in Wisconsin. So, in order to keep this positive momentum, we have to make sure our small businesses are able to expand, hire more workers and increase wages.

That is why I was proud to vote for S. 488, also known as the JOBS Act, which passed the House on Tuesday with overwhelming bipartisan support. I voted for this bill because it builds on past successes and opens doors to a brighter future. The first version of the JOBS Act was signed into law in 2012. Six years later, we are building on that bipartisan success by giving small businesses some much needed relief.

The Carbon Tax
I am proud to represent a beautiful district with a variety of natural attractions, and believe we need to protect them. At the same time, I am committed to opposing efforts by the federal government to implement costly regulatory burdens on small businesses that would have no impact on the climate. According to independent analysis, a carbon tax could cut U.S. GDP by as much as $146 billion and cost a family of four over $1,000 per year.

In case you missed it, I spoke on the House floor this week about the carbon tax and it's disproportionately negative effects on average workers.

Critical Funding
This week, the House passed a critical funding bill. I would like to point out some of the highlights. This bill:
  • Prioritizes law enforcement and safety by sending the required funds to the High Intesity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program;
  • Deters cyber terrorism by replenishing the Technology Modernization Fund;
  • Creates a new fund for America's Kids and Grandkids, which safeguards funds for future generations;
  • Supports veterans programs and Women's Business Centers;
  • Protects our natural resources by solidifying water infrastructure projects and making sure our park services have the resources they need to keep our country beautiful.
