As the year and the 114th Congress come to a close, I want to highlight some of the key Conservative victories Republicans have achieved over the last two years, despite working with a president of the opposite party.
This year, Congress sent a repeal of Obamacare to the president’s desk. Even though President Obama vetoed it, we have a blueprint to repeal and replace Obamacare ready to be sent to President Trump's desk. Additionally, Congress put the failures of Obamacare on display - exposing the fact the president’s healthcare law simply cannot function without massive insurance company bailouts.
Congress worked hard to keep total discretionary spending below what it was in 2010, while working towards tax reform we hope to pass in the new Congress.
We also sent a bill defunding Planned Parenthood to the president’s desk. While it was not signed into law by President Obama, the House continued working hard to put forth bills that protect the unborn. The House passed one bill banning abortions from occurring past the point when the unborn can feel pain and another bill preventing government from removing its funding from individuals or groups who don’t want to participate, facilitate or cover abortion.
These wins are great indicators of all we can accomplish in the 115th Congress under Republican leadership. I look forward to working towards more Conservative victories come January.
