Celebrating Labor Day!

Labor Day, observed on the first Monday in September, is more than just a long weekend marking the end of summer; it’s a celebration of the American worker and the contributions they have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country.

The holiday has its roots in the labor movement of the late 19th century when workers sought to secure fair wages, reasonable hours, and safer working conditions. Today, Labor Day serves as a reminder of those struggles and the progress that has been made, while also highlighting the ongoing importance of supporting and empowering the workforce.

One of my top priorities for today's workforce is the promotion of career and technical education and apprenticeships. These programs are essential in equipping workers with the practical skills needed for high-demand jobs in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, information technology, and the trades. All these industries are very important to Wisconsin! As the American economy continues to evolve, there is a growing recognition that traditional four-year college degrees are not the only pathway to a successful and fulfilling career. Career and technical education offers a viable alternative, providing students and workers with specialized training that leads directly to employment opportunities.

As Labor Day 2024 passes, let us remember the importance of supporting and celebrating our hardworking Americans every day!

September is Passport Month

September is Passport Month, a dedicated time at the Department of State to highlight the importance of securing and maintaining a valid passport for all U.S. citizens. This month-long initiative serves as a reminder for travelers to apply for or renew their passports well in advance of any planned trips.

The Department of State encourages everyone to check the expiration dates on their passports, particularly noting the six-month validity rule that many countries require. This rule mandates that passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry into a foreign country, making it essential for travelers to plan ahead.

If you need assistance renewing your passport, please contact my Fond Du Lac office at (920) 907-0624.
