Safeguarding Benefits for Americans Act

I recently reintroduced the Safeguarding Benefits for Americans Act, commonsense legislation to protect taxpayer-funded benefits for U.S. citizens and restore integrity to our social safety net.

Under the Biden administration’s reckless open-border policies, millions of illegal border crossings overwhelmed our communities and opened the door to widespread improper access to federal welfare programs. My bill closes those loopholes by requiring strict verification through the SAVE database, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Social Security Administration to ensure only eligible individuals receive benefits like Social Security and Medicare.

When I first introduced this legislation, it was projected to save taxpayers $60 billion. Today, that number has more than doubled to $125 billion in savings in the first year alone, highlighting just how much damage Biden-era policies inflicted on the system.

As President Trump works to secure the border and restore law and order, Congress must do its part. This bill protects benefits for American citizens, supports immigrant self-sufficiency, and ensures our safety net remains a hand up, not a handout.

Trump Accounts: A $1,000 Head Start for America’s Kids

As Americans began filing their taxes on January 26, they started seeing firsthand how House Republicans and President Trump are delivering real results for working families.

One of the most important reforms in the Working Families Tax Cuts is the creation of Trump Accounts, a long-term investment in America’s future. These accounts provide $1,000 for every American child born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, deposited directly into an account in the child’s name. Parents serve as custodians until the child turns 18, and no additional contributions are required.

This is a simple but powerful idea: give families a head start and let time do the work. A single $1,000 contribution can grow to approximately $5,800 by age 18, $17,000 by age 27, and over $200,000 by age 55 if left to grow. Families may also choose to contribute up to $5,000 per year to maximize long-term growth.

Enrollment happens when families file their taxes. A financial institution activates the account, and families can watch their investment grow over time.

This tax season, families aren’t just filing paperwork, they’re seeing conservative policies that reward work, encourage saving, and restore financial hope for the next generation.

Weekly Roundup

Tuesday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. We honored the memory of the six million Jewish men, women, and children who we lost during the Holocaust.

We remembered the victims and honored the survivors, while reaffirming the importance of confronting antisemitism and hatred wherever they arise.

Remembering the Holocaust is essential to preserving truth, defending human dignity, and ensuring future generations understand the consequences of hatred.

I was glad to attend the Grafton Chamber’s State of the Community Luncheon. It was great to hear from local leaders about the progress our schools, town, and community organizations made last year, and to learn what we have to look forward to in the year ahead. Staying connected with the people and programs that make Grafton a strong community is always important.

Last week, I had the honor of attending the March for Life in Washington, D.C. Life is precious, and I am proud to stand for policies that protect it from the very beginning. Every life matters, and I will continue fighting in Congress to defend it.
