STOP School Violence

This week, I voted for the STOP School Violence Act, which passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support.

This bill invests in early intervention and prevention programs in our local schools, so that our communities and police officers can be partners in preventing violent events from happening. This means that students, teachers and law enforcement would receive the tools and training they need to better identify the warning signs of a violent individual and how to react when they see something that is not right.

Apprenticeships and Technical Education
I recently rallied a bipartisan group of Wisconsin Congressmen to send a letter to House appropriators requesting strong support for apprenticeships and career and technical education (CTE) programs in the technology field in the FY18 appropriations package.

In 2016, the technology industry contributed roughly $1 trillion to the U.S. economy, employed nearly seven million Americans and added over 100,000 new jobs. However, the skilled-labor gap led to more than 600,000 unfilled jobs in the final quarter of 2016 alone. Grothman’s letter calls for thorough investment in vital apprenticeships and CTE programs to ensure the booming U.S. technology industry continues to grow.

As a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee and representative of a district with such a high need for skilled labor, I can confidently say that investment in the technology industry will benefit not only Wisconsin, but the entire country.

Wisconsin in D.C.
So many Wisconsitnites were visiting D.C. this week. I'm glad I got to see you all!

Thanks to JDRF Advocacy for everything you do to advance the fight against type 1 diabetes.

It was great to see my friends from Wyldewood Baptist Church in Oshkosh on their visit to D.C.

I'm thankful that I was able to share breakfast and speak with this great group of students from my alma mater. Go Badgers!

Thank you for recognizing me as a 2018 Distinguished Community Health Advocate, which was accepted by my staffer due to the House voting schedule. I will continue to support Community Health Centers and the patients they serve.
