This week, the U.S. economy regained the title for the most competitive economy on the global stage. It has been a decade since the United States held this title, and thanks to our commitment to pro-growth economic policies, including tax reform, the U.S. economy is back on top. The report, published by the World Economic Forum, cited that the process of bringing company operations back to the United States and the repatriation of manufacturing facilities has drastically helped the economy over the past several months.
While our economy is currently booming, some of the greatest news about this rapid recovery is that it shows few signs of slowing down. JP Morgan CEO, Jamie Dimon, has expressed his belief that the economy will only continue to get stronger in the foreseeable future, and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell described the U.S. economic outlook as remarkably positive.
Evidence to back up those statements includes that wages are finally catching up with the economy. In September, overall hourly wages were up 2.8% from a year earlier and low income earners are seeing more money in their paychecks. With job openings at record highs, it is important that we find constructive solutions to filling job positions across the board so that our economy continues at this pace. |
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has provided immense support to many residents throughout Wisconsin and within the 6th district. This year alone, tax reform has helped create nearly 23,000 jobs in Wisconsin, many of which have included employment opportunities in important economic sectors such as manufacturing.
Tax reform has not only helped create new job opportunities, but also is putting more money in the pockets of hard working Wisconsinites. Recently, the Heritage Foundation published a report detailing the impact it would have on districts and communities throughout the county if this important piece of legislation were to be repealed.
The graphic below indicates that people in the district would be at risk of losing anywhere between $18,000 to $19,999 in take-home pay over the 2020-2029 period if tax reform was repealed. Tax reform is helping people in Wisconsin and its important to know how and why. For more information click here.

I am proud to announce that three individuals from the 6th district received this years Fulbright award. The Fulbright Program, established by Congress in 1946, awards individuals for their outstanding academic work and distinction.
The program was created in order to foster and strengthen relationships between individuals in the United States and other countries across the globe through international educational exchange. The U.S. participates in this program with approximately 100 foreign partner governments to promote educational diversity and excellence.
Kyle Armstrong of Neenah, Lindsay Jagla of Mequon, and Dr. Marianne Johnson of Oshkosh are all recipients of this years award. Kyle and Lindsay participated in English Teaching Assistantship student programs in Taiwan and Colombia respectively, while Dr. Johnson participated in an Economics scholars program in Albania. An incredible accomplishment, congratulations! |
Continued economic success has manufacturers feeling good about their businesses again. The industry represents the backbone of our economy and its so great to see it thriving once again!
This week, my Washington D.C. office received this flyer, courtesy of Lakeshore Technical College. I'm so proud to have such a prestigious institution in the 6th district. Keep up the great work!
