Back to Washington
As you may know, each August, the House of Representatives has a district work period so representatives can work from the district. This gives each member the opportunity to stay in touch with the people that elected them. While I do come home every weekend during the year, I was grateful for this extended district work week where I was able to visit local businesses and meet with constituents in order to hear what issues are affecting them the most. Next week, I will return to Washington with all of the advice you gave me.

Additionally, I will be looking to build upon recent success at the Southern border. To be clear, there is a crisis at our border and we have a long way to go. But, I am proud to say that illegal crossings are down and Congress has started to give our border agents the resources they deserve. Next Wednesday, I will hear from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Deputy Director, Derek Benner, at a Border Security Caucus meeting in the Capitol. I look forward to advancing the effort for a safer southern border in order to prevent illegal drug trafficking and other criminal offenses from threatening our nation.

As I head back to Washington, I will also remain committed to fighting against our nationwide opioid epidemic. Wisconsin's opioid deaths were down last year after the Republican-controlled Congress passed a bill to combat the problem. However, opioid abuse is still affecting far too many. I've spoken with far too many families and have seen too many news articles about the devastating effects of opioid abuse to say that this fight is over.

Stay tuned to my E-newsletter for updates on these issues and more as I return to Washington.

Rep. Sensenbrenner's Retirement

Congressman Sensenbrenner has been a staple of Wisconsin politics for decades. From the time I first entered public service, he has been a role model for me. He is well-known throughout the state for the number of town hall meetings he holds. When I was a state legislator, I must have attended over 400. I have always admired his unwavering commitment to Wisconsin values and conservative ideas and appreciate his passion to fight for civil liberties.

I look forward to spending another 15 months with him in Congress and wish him the very best in retirement.

Combating Crime
This week, I received great news from our southern border. According to Politico, the Trump Administration's leadership has led to a decrease in illegal border crossings. Illegal crossings continued to drop from July to August, a time period that historically sees an increase.

I have always been a supporter of upholding our immigration laws and securing our borders. That is why I have visited our southern border three times this year, where I was able to speak with border patrol agents who tell me they need more support from Congress to effectively carry out their mission of securing our border. We must ensure that the people who are coming into our country are properly screened and examined to be certain they are coming here legally and without the intention of taking advantage or our welfare system.

Having said that, I applaud President Trump for successfully decreasing the number of illegal border crossings. We must continue to fix our outdated immigration system and support our border patrol agents in order to ensure the safety and security of our nation.

Weekly Roundup
Thursday was the International Day of Charity. I want to give a big Thank You to all of the great organizations out there who are dedicated to changing the lives of millions through their work, as well as the individuals who donate and make it possible.

Thanks to The Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) for visiting my Fond du Lac office to talk about seniors’ rights, like protecting Medicare and ensuring the longevity of Social Security.

I am proud to represent Wisconsin's Sixth District, which is home to many great natural attractions. Wednesday was National Wildlife Day, where we took a moment to appreciate and enjoy Wisconsin’s beautiful and diverse wildlife.

Thanks to Opportunities Inc. and A-Team Wisconsin for surprising me with the All Star award! Some people want to take workplace rights away from individuals with disabilities by slapping businesses with regulations that would make it impossible for them to work. They love having a job, just like everyone else, which is why I’m committed to protecting their rights.

Hot summer days like this at the Eden Fire Department picnic make me wish for colder weather. But when winter comes around I’m sure I’ll be looking forward to the heat again!
