The Democrat Shutdown Hurts Wisconsin Families

11 days ago, the federal government shut down. How did we get here?

House Republicans did our job — we passed a clean continuing resolution on September 19 to keep the government open and protect critical services. Unfortunately, Democrats in the Senate, where you need 60 votes to pass legislation, chose politics over responsibility, forcing a shutdown that is now starting to impact working families across Wisconsin.

If this continues, the consequences will grow more serious. More than 30,000 federal workers in Wisconsin could soon miss their paychecks. Nearly 700,000 Wisconsinites who rely on SNAP benefits, including 267,000 children, will see disruptions to their support after 30 days. The state’s economy stands to lose $234 million in GDP each week, and consumer spending is projected to drop by nearly $300 million each month.

This is unacceptable. Wisconsinites shouldn’t have to pay the price for Washington Democrats’ dysfunction.

House Republicans have proven we can govern responsibly. It’s time for Senate Democrats to do the same by passing the House’s clean resolution, ending this shutdown, and getting American families the stability they deserve.

President Trump’s Historic Peace Agreement and Remembering October 7

This week, President Trump announced a historic peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, marking the first phase of a plan to bring stability to the region and a just conclusion to the war Hamas started on October 7, 2023.

Two years ago, the world watched in horror as Hamas terrorists launched a brutal and unprovoked attack on Israel. Over 1,200 innocent men, women, and children lost their lives, making it the deadliest assault on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. It was a stark reminder that antisemitism and terrorism remain very real threats that must never be ignored or excused.

This new peace agreement represents a major step forward for peace in the Middle East. It includes provisions to free hostages who have been held in Gaza for nearly two years, to disarm Hamas, and to remove the terrorist organization from power—ensuring that the horror of October 7 is never repeated.

I’d like to congratulate President Trump for his leadership and can-do attitude in securing this breakthrough. What makes this moment particularly encouraging is that it brings new countries to the table that have not traditionally been part of lasting peace efforts in the region. This cooperation gives hope that a more peaceful and secure future is within reach for people of the Middle East.

It’s remarkable to see how much President Trump has accomplished less than a year into his second term. His commitment to peace, strength, and American leadership continues to make the world a safer and more stable place.

As we celebrate this progress, we also remember the families of the hostages, the brave Israeli soldiers who defended their nation, and all those who have suffered because of Hamas’s violence. America’s commitment to Israel must remain unwavering. The United States must always stand shoulder to shoulder with our greatest ally in the Middle East and reject terrorism in all its forms.

Taiwan National Day

Friday marked Taiwan National Day, also known as “Double Ten Day.” I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Taiwan on this special occasion. Having had the privilege of visiting Taiwan, I was deeply impressed by the industrious and intelligent citizens who have played an instrumental role in fostering the nation’s remarkable prosperity.

Taipei’s safe, clean streets and outstanding education system stand as testaments to Taiwan’s success, not only economically, but as a society rooted in freedom and opportunity.

Taiwan continues to be a beacon of democracy and perseverance in the Indo-Pacific region. America must always stand with Taiwan and defend our shared values of freedom and self-determination.
