House Passes Tax Relief Bill
Yesterday the House passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the first tax reform bill since 1986. This bill stops jobs from moving overseas, encourages small businesses to invest in their employees and puts more of your hard-earned money back in your pocket.

While this tax plan isn’t perfect yet – I hope that when the House and Senate tax bills are reconciled, the medical expense deductions, which so many individuals in dire situations depend on, are restored – it does benefit the middle class and simplifies the tax process for all Americans.

For many years, I was a tax preparer and I know firsthand how complicated and convoluted our current tax code is. This reform is sorely-needed, and will lead to more jobs and economic growth in the Sixth District and across the U.S.

Thank you Veterans!
It was truly a privilege to speak at the unveiling of the Oshkosh High/West Veterans Honor Wall dedication on Veterans Day. The wall honors former students who have served in the military.

Accountability
I always want to hear your feedback and welcome all suggestions from from constituents. In turn, it is my duty to hold the unelected officials of Washington, D.C. accountable for their performance. This week I questioned officials from several agencies in my committee hearings.

On Tuesday during an Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, I held officials from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Education and Department of Health and Human Services accountable for their efforts in regulatory reform. I found that we are making progress in cutting burdensome regulations, allowing the free market to thrive. Read more here.

On Wednesday during an Education and the Workforce Committee hearing, I questioned Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary Alexander Acosta on efficiency within the department. Government agencies sometimes forget that they are working for the people. I spoke with secretary Acosta to make sure the DOL was not becoming complacent and that they are continuing their mission to improve conditions for workers. Read more here

Happy Adoption Month!
