In 2017, President Trump delivered tax cuts that created more jobs and higher wages for hard-working Wisconsinites. The Fiscal Year 2025 budget blueprint extends those tax cuts in a fiscally responsible package. With the national debt exceeding $36 trillion, my Republican colleagues and I have been working on a resolution in the House Budget Committee that contains necessary requirements and functional categories with important spending and revenue targets. This blueprint reduces the debt, which will reduce inflation—putting money back in the pockets of American families.
This budget resolution gives Congress the flexibility to extend pro-growth tax policies that benefit all Americans. According to analysis of CBO data by the Tax Foundation, Republican tax reform reduced federal tax rates for households across every income level–while increasing the share of taxes paid by the top 1 percent. More than 6 million people were lifted out of poverty, dropping the poverty rate to 10.5 percent, the lowest level in U.S. history. Income and wealth inequality fell after the 2017 tax cuts, as real wages for the bottom 10 percent grew nearly twice as fast as the top 10 percent and real wealth of the bottom 50 percent of households rose three times faster than that of the top 1 percent.
On Thursday night, with my support, the House Budget Committee passed the Concurrent Resolution on the Budget for Fiscal Year 2025, a foundational first step to deliver on President Trump’s transformative America First agenda. We are at a pivotal moment in our nation's history. It is time to rise to the occasion and stand with President Trump in making the tough, but important decisions that will safeguard our republic for future generations. This is our final, best opportunity to act, and this is a solid comprehensive solution that Congress has put forward. As long as I am your Representative, I will continue to do my best to identify and eliminate wasteful government spending for both the Sixth District and the rest of the nation.
