Simplifying Retirement Rules with the Form 5500 Simplification Act

At a recent Education and Workforce hearing, I focused on a commonsense fix that could make a real difference for workers and small businesses alike: my Form 5500 Simplification Act. Right now, outdated and overly complicated reporting requirements make it harder, and more expensive, for employers to offer retirement plans. That means fewer options and higher costs for the very people we’re trying to help.

My bill streamlines unnecessary paperwork, reduces compliance burdens, and makes it easier for small employers to provide retirement benefits to their employees. When we cut red tape, we expand opportunity. More businesses can offer plans, more workers can save, and families can build the financial security they deserve.

This hearing reinforced the broader priority of putting workers first. That means demanding transparency that lowers costs, restoring accountability in our benefits system, and ensuring retirement plans are focused on delivering strong returns, not navigating bureaucracy. It also means making sure government oversight is fair, targeted, and doesn’t stand in the way of employers who are trying to do right by their employees.

We should be making it easier, not harder, for Americans to save for retirement. My Form 5500 Simplification Act is a straightforward step toward a system that delivers stronger benefits, lower costs, and more choices for working families.

Fighting Taxpayer Fraud Across the Country

As a member of the House Oversight Committee, I’ve seen firsthand how taxpayer dollars can be exploited when oversight fails. Our committee recently launched an investigation into rampant fraud in California’s hospice programs, a state where officials have known about these problems for years but failed to stop them. Agencies were overbilling Medicare, enrolling patients without their knowledge, and exploiting some of the most vulnerable in our society.

This isn’t just a California problem. Our past investigations in Minnesota and other states have exposed widespread failures in federally funded social service programs, with fraud schemes costing taxpayers billions. Now we’re seeing similar problems in California, where hospice providers in Los Angeles County alone overbilled Medicare by at least $105 million in a single year. Minimal safeguards allowed fraudsters to obtain licenses, and some even targeted seniors under false pretenses. Los Angeles County alone accounts for 18% of all hospice billing nationwide, with $3.5 billion in estimated fraud.

Our committee is demanding answers from Governor Gavin Newsom and his administration. We’re requesting all documents and communications related to California’s efforts, or lack thereof, to prevent fraud in federally funded hospice programs.

This is about more than one state - it’s about protecting American taxpayers everywhere.

House Republicans Stand With Working Families on Overtime Relief

On the House floor, I spoke out in support of the Working Families Tax Cut and, in particular, the push for no tax on overtime. Democrats have tried to muddy the waters on this, but the reality is straightforward: Americans who work extra hours are receiving bigger paychecks thanks to the work of House Republicans. They’ve already earned that pay and they deserve to keep more of it.

House Republicans are focused on a tax code that rewards work instead of punishing it. That means bigger paychecks, fairer treatment of overtime, and real relief for families who are just trying to keep up with the cost of living. I made clear during debate that the Democrat narrative simply doesn’t match what this policy actually does for working Americans.

This effort aligns with broader work in the Ways and Means Committee through a resolution expressing support for tax policies that put working families first. It recognizes the importance of the Working Families Tax Cut, which delivers lower taxes for families, workers, and seniors, allowing middle-class Americans to keep more of what they earn.

At the end of the day, House Republicans are drawing a clear line: we support policies that help Americans who punch the clock, work overtime, and carry the load.

Working families deserve a tax system that respects their effort, supports their goals, and makes life more affordable. We’re going to keep fighting to make sure it does exactly that.

Weekly Roundup

This Tax Day, Wisconsin families saw the difference.

The Working Families Tax Cut delivered real relief by lowering the average taxpayer’s federal tax burden by about 11% and helping families keep more of their hard-earned money. That’s meaningful reform that rewards work, supports growth, and puts taxpayers first.

On Tuesday we celebrated the birthday of the United States Air Force Reserve, established in 1948.

For decades, these dedicated men and women have balanced civilian careers, family life, and military service - answering the call whenever our nation needs them. Their commitment, readiness, and sacrifice strengthen our national defense and keep our communities safe.

Yom HaShoah was on Tuesday. We paused to remember the six million Jewish men, women, and children murdered during the Holocaust, along with the countless others who suffered from hatred and persecution.

We honored the memory of those lost and reaffirm our commitment to stand against antisemitism and evil wherever it appears. We must continue to educate future generations so the lessons of history are never forgotten.

There’s good news for Wisconsin taxpayers: the average taxpayer will see a tax cut of $3,177.

That’s real relief for hardworking families and seniors who deserve to keep more of what they earn.

I recently toured Rockline Industries in Sheboygan and saw firsthand the hard work being done by the men and women who keep Wisconsin manufacturing strong. For decades, Rockline has created opportunities for folks right here at home while producing products families rely on every day.

The Working Families Tax Cut is helping manufacturers invest in new equipment, expand facilities, and grow their workforce - strengthening communities and keeping American manufacturing competitive.
