What is the District Work Period?

When the House is in session, I travel to Washington to vote on legislation, hold committee hearings, participate in policy meetings and briefings, and confer with my colleagues about the direction of the country and how we can help you. Typically, the House is in session for three weeks each month and in recess for one week. While some representatives stay in Washington continuously during session weeks, I always return to Wisconsin on the weekends and then go back to Washington for the following week.

Every August, Congress is out of session for the entire month, giving each member the opportunity to return to their district, stay in touch with constituents, and learn about the issues most important to each local community. Although I already return to Wisconsin every weekend, I will be back for the entire month of August during our yearly district work period.

I believe the best representatives in government are citizens of the areas they represent, and it is my honor to serve you, my neighbors, in Congress. Having the entire month back home makes it easier to plan visits to local businesses and meet with constituents to understand the issues affecting them the most.

If you would like to meet with me or have me tour your facility in the district, please call my Fond du Lac office at 920-907-0624. To invite me to attend a community event near you, please click the image below.

Kamala the Border Czar

Last week, the House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning Vice President Harris's role as border czar after she was appointed by President Biden in 2021 to lead the effort to solve the border crisis.

Since her appointment, there have been over 8.1 million illegal migrant encounters at our Southern border. This is roughly 6,400 encounters per day, well above the definition of a "crisis" set by President Obama's DHS Secretary Jen Johnson who said in 2019 that "more than 1,000 encounters a day overwhelm the system".

This is not to mention the vast amounts of illegal drugs coming across the border, which has sparked the record overdose crisis that has led to more than 300,000 deaths since 2021. This is not just happening near the border, deadly fentanyl has made its way to Wisconsin, too.

This resolution serves as a clear signal that the American people and representatives, on both sides of the aisle, are dissatisfied with the current administration's handling of the border crisis. It highlights a critical need for a more robust and effective approach to border security, such as finishing the border wall system and reinstating the Remain in Mexico Policy. Many innocent American lives have been taken and this trend needs to end now.
