Recognizing Our Hmong Community

Did you know that Wisconsin has the 3rd highest Hmong population of any state? I am fortunate to have so many Hmong friends in the 6th district and am thankful they have taught me so much about their rich history and wonderful culture.

I am very excited to share that, along with the entire Wisconsin delegation, I introduced a bipartisan resolution TO THE House of Representatives to recognize the cultural and historical significance of the Hmong New Year. I am glad that both sides of the aisle have come together to recognize Hmong Americans’ significant role in our communities and their pursuit of the American Dream.

The Hmong New Year is traditionally celebrated at the end of the rice harvest season in Laos and Southeast Asia in late November and early December. This celebration provides the Hmong people an opportunity to honor their ancestors and give thanks for the harvest. In the United States, the Hmong New Year traditions have carried over, occurring from October through December.

I always enjoy attending the New Year celebrations in the 6th district and am looking forward to attending them again this year in places like Oshkosh and Sheboygan. These celebrations of thanksgiving are an honor to attend – the food, music, and dance make these truly special events.

The Hmong people will always be dear to my heart for the important role they played helping the United States fight communism in the Vietnam war. Now, we are lucky to have the Hmong people among us as neighbors in Wisconsin. I wish all of those celebrating the New Year a safe and happy celebration of their rich traditions and culture. I am ready to see you all at festivals and celebrations across the 6th District!

Weekly Roundup

This week, I toured the Penda Corporation in Portage and spoke with the managers and employees about how I can help in growing Wisconsin's manufacturing industry

It was a pleasure to speak with the Cedarburg-Grafton Rotary Club on Thursday. Thanks for having me!

On Thursday, I had the opportunity to visit Carlson Tool and Manufacturing Corporation. This Cedarburg manufacturer produces and refurbishes tools for other Wisconsin businesses. Employees at Carlson Tool, and manufacturers all over the 6th District, are the backbone of our great Wisconsin economy.
