When the House is in-session, I go to Washington to, among other things, vote on legislation, hold committee hearings, participate in policy meetings and briefings, and confer with my colleagues about the direction of the country and how we can help you. During a typical month, the House is in session three weeks and in recess one week. Some representatives stay in Washington when we are in session for weeks at a time, but I always come back to Wisconsin on the weekend and return to Washington the next week.

Every August, Congress is out-of-session for the whole month, so each member has the chance to go back to his or her district to stay in touch with the people who elected them and hear which issues are most important to each local community. So, while I am already back in Wisconsin every weekend, I will be back for the entire month of August for our yearly district work period. 

I believe the best representatives in government are citizens of the area represented, and it is my honor to serve you, my neighbors, in Congress. Having the entire month back home makes it easier to plan visits to local businesses and meetings with constituents in order to hear which issues are affecting them the most.

This week, I held town hall meetings in Omro, the Town of Brooklyn, and Montello. Thank you to everyone who attended! I always enjoy giving you a detailed update on what Congress is working on and hearing which issues are affecting you. My office is finalizing details on my next round of town hall meetings, so stay tuned into my weekly E-newsletter for further information when it becomes available.

Wednesday was National Coast Guard Day, where we wished a happy birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard. Thank you for strengthening, supporting, and protecting our waterways for 231 years.

From their manufacturing facility in Omro, the employees of Stainless Piping Specialists make quality metal pipes for things like firetrucks and water treatment plants.

It was great to visit Webster Manor in Omro to speak with residents about how I am fighting to protect Medicare and Social Security.

I toured A.F. Gelhar Co., who is based in Markesan and has been mining and selling sand for 102 years.

It was great to see my fellow Rotarians at the Goose Blind Grill and Bar in Green Lake.
