House Passes the Fair and Accountable IRS Reviews Act

I’m pleased to share that the House has passed my Fair and Accountable IRS Reviews Act with strong bipartisan support.

Under current practice, the IRS can impose penalties on taxpayers and obtain supervisory approval after the fact, even from individuals who are not the agent’s immediate supervisor. That undermines transparency and makes it easier for penalties to be used as leverage rather than as a fair, consistent enforcement tool.

My bill restores the original intent of the law. It requires an IRS agent’s immediate supervisor to provide written approval at the time a penalty is first proposed, not later in the process. This simple but important change strengthens oversight and ensures penalties are issued responsibly and predictably.

Americans deserve a tax system that operates with fairness, clarity, and accountability. This bill moves us closer to that goal.

Holding Washington Accountable for Its Budget Crisis

This week, I participated in a House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government hearing titled “Balancing the Federal Budget: Examining Proposals for a Balanced Budget Amendment.” With our yearly deficit around $1.78 trillion and the national debt climbing past $38 trillion, Washington’s spending habits are pushing our country toward a fiscal cliff.

During the hearing, we discussed a critical question: Why should Congress be allowed to spend without limits when American families have to live within theirs? The federal government cannot continue borrowing with no guardrails and expect future generations to carry the burden.

A Balanced Budget Amendment would require Congress to do what every responsible household and small business in Wisconsin does every single day -live within its means. One thing is clear: our current trajectory is unsustainable, and reforms are long overdue.

I will continue advocating for fiscal discipline, greater transparency, and long-term solutions that protect taxpayers and secure our nation’s financial future.

Honoring Dillon Mueller's Legacy Through Lifesaving Training

I recently joined the Dillon Mueller Memorial Fund at the Feith Family YMCA for an important community Epi-Pen training. The organization’s work honors the life of Dillon Mueller, a young man from our district who tragically passed away from a severe allergic reaction. His story continues to inspire a statewide, and now national, effort to ensure more people are prepared to act when every second counts.

I’m proud to have introduced Dillon’s Law in Congress, legislation that would allow more trained individuals to carry and administer lifesaving epinephrine. Dillon’s legacy underscores just how important this effort is, and why expanding access to lifesaving training remains a top priority.

It was encouraging to see so many community members take part in this training. Their commitment helps make our neighborhoods safer, more prepared, and better equipped to protect one another.

Weekly Roundup

On Sunday, we will pause to honor the more than 2,400 Americans who gave their lives on December 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor. Their sacrifice, and the bravery of those who answered the call that day, reminds us that freedom is never free.

We honor their legacy by reflecting on the bravery, determination, and spirit that defined that day. Their example challenges us to remain vigilant and committed to protecting our nation. Let’s honor their memory by standing strong and defending the liberty they fought to protect.

May we never forget.

It was an honor to attend the deployment sendoff for our Wisconsin National Guard troops at Hartford Union High School. Seeing these men and women, ready to serve our country, is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices they and their families make every day.

We are grateful for their courage and dedication, and we pray for their safety as they carry out their mission. I'm wishing all deploying service members a safe journey and a warm welcome home.

It was a pleasure celebrating Maxwell Mueller and Cameron Kozak of Troop 904 and Hayden Dewane of Troop 932 at their Eagle Scout Courts of Honor. Becoming an Eagle Scout is a tremendous achievement that reflects years of dedication, hard work, and leadership.

Congratulations to all three scouts on reaching this milestone. Your commitment and perseverance set a shining example for others to follow.
