The People's Border Wall

Today, I introduced an act that would allow the American public to help fund the construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. The People’s Border Wall Fund Act would allow the American people to actively take part in making America safer by allowing them to personally contribute to the construction of a wall on the Southern border.

For too long, I have heard from constituents about their desire to secure the border and ensure proper screening of individuals that cross into our country. Lately, concerned Wisconsinites have asked me if there is a way they can personally contribute to the funding of a border wall. With this legislation, the public can take action and help promote the policy goals they wish to see our country implement.

The People’s Border Wall Fund Act would create a trust fund within the Department of the Treasury that allows for public donations to be used to plan, design, construct, and maintain a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border. The Department of the Treasury would be required to notify the public of the existence of the account, along with the current amount of funds and total amount donated over time. I am happy to introduce this legislation with the hope that the public's request to fund the wall and strengthen our national security will be fulfilled.

Medal of Honor
Earlier this week, I introduced legislation to award Fond du Lac native James “Maggie” Megellas the Medal of Honor. This legislation authorizes and requests President Donald Trump to award Megellas with the United States’ highest military honor for the courage he showed during the Battle of the Bulge.

Over 70 years ago, First Lieutenant Megellas led his platoon in a successful attack on an enemy battalion near Herresbach, Belgium, that outnumbered it ten-to-one. Following the attack, Megellas led his platoon into the town of Herresbach where he personally disabled a German Mark V Panther tank that had pinned down him and his troops. Without suffering a single casualty, Megellas and his platoon stifled the enemy and secured the Belgian town.

Megellas established himself as the most decorated member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He attended Ripon College and was born and raised in Fond du Lac. Megellas is a true American hero who deserves to be honored with the Medal of Honor. With this legislation, I hope my colleagues and I can reward him with the recognition he deserves.
