This week, we said farewell to former President George H.W. Bush. President Bush was an outstanding man and an honorable President. He will be remembered for being a war hero, a patriot, a family man, and someone who stood up for the values and ideals of our beautiful nation.
41 was a pioneer of U.S. foreign policy, helping us shape and improve many of our relationships abroad. He helped bring an end to the Cold War and led us to victory in the Gulf War. He was bold, compassionate, and always put his country first. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the Bush family for their loss. Rest in Peace 41.

Last month, we recognized National Apprenticeship Week for its critical importance to educating young professionals on new and affordable career pathways and helping close the skills gap in Wisconsin and throughout the country. Institutions all across the United States have been implementing apprenticeships into their education programs in an effort to bring awareness to workforce training.
Lakeshore Technical College (LTC), located in the Sixth District, currently serves 210 students in 10 different apprenticeship programs. Recently, LTC was named in the top three for Best Colleges for Adult Learners in the country. Their successful apprenticeship program is yet another achievement they can add to their list of accolades. Students that participate in apprenticeships through LTC are able to attend classes at LTC and participate in on-the-job training at work sites, all while still being paid by their employer.
In Congress, I have been working to bring more awareness to the value of apprenticeships. This past summer, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education Act for the 21st Century was signed into law to help bring support to workforce training programs such as apprenticeships. I cosponsored this legislation to help close the skills gap and open up more opportunities for workforce training programs in the Sixth District. Incomes throughout Wisconsin are on the rise and poverty levels have shrunk over recent years as the robust economy has provided Wisconsinites with a boost. Recent data published by the U.S. Census Bureau cites that household incomes in the majority of Wisconsin counties has risen in the past couple years.
Additionally, 13 counties reported a positive change in poverty rates as many Wisconsinites who were once in dire straits have recovered in recent years thanks to an economy that has brought jobs back to the United States in record levels. Over the past few years, median household income increased by an average of about $3,200 in 15 of the state's 72 counties, while 69 counties saw a decline in the family poverty rate.
Its great to see an economy that is repaying Wisconsinites for their hard work. |
Please remember the American Patriots who lost their lives in Pearl Harbor on this day in 1941.
Happy Hanukkah!
I enjoyed speaking at the Von Briesen annual legislative update about the ways I am working in Congress to scale back regulations, lower health care costs and increase economic opportunities for future generations.
Congratulations to Alec Vogt of Manitowoc for earning the rank of Eagle Scout!
