Passing the NDAA

This week, the House voted in a bipartisan manner to pass the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), an essential piece of legislation that strengthens our national defense and counters growing threats from foreign adversaries, including China, Russia, and Iran. The FY25 NDAA delivers key victories to enhance military readiness, improve servicemembers' quality of life, and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly.

The FY25 NDAA builds on House Republicans’ commitment to refocus our Armed Forces on their core mission of readiness and lethality by eliminating politically driven policies that have caused unnecessary distractions. It fully funds our national defense and, notably, includes a 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted personnel, significant improvements to military housing, and expanded access to childcare and healthcare services—initiatives that will directly enhance the lives of servicemembers stationed in Wisconsin.

To confront growing global challenges, the FY25 NDAA invests in cutting-edge technologies like hypersonics and artificial intelligence, strengthens deterrence efforts in the Indo-Pacific through the Pacific Deterrence Initiative, and bolsters Taiwan’s defense capabilities. The bill also provides critical support for our allies in the Middle East by securing access to air defense interceptors and reversing the Administration’s shortsighted decision to halt production of vital missile defense systems.

I was proud to vote for this legislation, which not only ensures our Armed Forces are prepared to defend our nation but also reflects a strong commitment to the brave men and women who serve. This bill represents a significant step forward in safeguarding our nation and honoring the sacrifices of those who protect it. To read more about the FY25 NDAA please click here.

The U.S. Fiscal Crisis

Earlier this week, the House Budget Committee held a hearing addressing the major fiscal problems in the U.S. Due to decades of wasteful spending and irresponsible borrowing, the United States is speeding toward a fiscal reckoning. Given this mounting debt crisis, Congress must consider all available fiscally responsible reform proposals that could assist in addressing  the nation’s unsustainable debt and deficit spending.

When I came to Congress in 2015, Congress spent $1.1 trillion in discretionary spending. Last year, we spent $1.7 trillion, a 54 percent increase! We need to work on solving this issue of wasteful spending.  As your representative in Washington, I will continue to fight to reduce the size, scope, and spending of the federal government and get our country’s fiscal house in order.
