Foreign Nationals Spying on U.S. Military Bases

This week, as Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs, I conducted a classified hearing to examine the infiltration of sensitive U.S. military instillations by foreign agents.

In September 2023, the Wall Street Journal reported that Chinese Communist Party spies gained or tried to access U.S. military bases and sensitive sites at least 100 times over the past few years. In one case, potential agents infiltrated a U.S. Army test range, accessed numerous missile sites, and used drones to surveil the grounds. In another case, individuals were found scuba diving in a location that is home to a launch site for U.S. satellites and other sensitive military equipment.

The Biden administration’s lax border enforcement and immigration policies have facilitated the entry of individuals engaged in espionage activities. So far in FY2024, 24,376 Chinese nationals have been encountered at the Southwest border. Encounters of Chinese nationals in March of this year have increased by 8,000 percent compared to March 2021. More than 1,000 Chinese nationals have crossed the southwest border every month for the past 5 months.

While China typically garners the most attention on this issue, it's essential to recognize that foreign nationals from other countries are also involved. Just hours after the hearing Fox News reported that two Jordanian nationals attempted to gain access to Quantico Marine Corps Base and are now in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

While the specifics of our findings remain classified, I took the opportunity to discuss this critical national security issue with the Daily Mail.

Budget Bills and How They Affect You

The federal government has a spending problem, and the Budget Committee is working to address wasteful Washington spending!

This week, the Budget Committee passed several bills to address our country’s fiscal crisis.

First, the Debt Per Taxpayer Information Act will help Americans understand the country's national debt situation by giving them easy-to-understand financial information on their tax forms, including how much the government owes and the size of each taxpayer’s share of the national debt – more than $200,000 per taxpayer.

Second, the Enhancing Improper Payment Accountability Act tackles wasting money in new programs by codifying strict reporting requirements if the program spends over $100 million in its first four years. It also requires agencies to report every year on what steps they're taking to stop fraud.

These two bipartisan bills will educate taxpayers about the size of our national debt and reduce waste across the federal government. Now, these bills await a vote from the full House.

Police Week

As we wrap up Police Week 2024, we must remember that we should always honor our heroes in blue! From bravery to sacrifice, they stand strong to keep our communities safe. Let's salute their service and dedication.

Police Week is observed annually, dedicated to honoring the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of law enforcement officers. It serves as a strong reminder of the risks these brave individuals face daily in the line of duty to safeguard our communities. Please take a moment to acknowledge the daily risks that police officers face when they go to work. These risks not only impact them but also their families. Let's offer our prayers for the safety of these men and women, as well as for the safety of the communities they serve and protect.
