Commitment to Civility
In light of recent comments made by a California Member of Congress, and general incivility on both sides of the aisle, I have joined a bipartisan group of nearly 150 Congressmen in a commitment to civility.

Religious Freedom Week
Many people do not realize or choose to ignore the religious persecution that is still rampant across the globe. I believe that it is our duty to protect the most vulnerable among us, and that includes those who are being persecuted for their faith.

In his State of the Union address, President Trump pledged continued sanctions on Iran, North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela until religious freedom is restored. This was just one of the administration’s many pro-religious liberty priorities. I thank the President for his leadership on this issue.

While the President has the ear of the national media, I have been fighting for religious freedom in Congress. Late last year, My bipartisan resolution condemning the global persecution of Christians passed the House unanimously. As Christians in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas are killed, abducted, trafficked and prevented from practicing their faith by extremist groups and government officials, this becomes a larger and larger global human rights issue. H. Res. 407 calls for all discriminatory countries and extremist groups to cease their persecution of religious minorities and force leaders to uphold universal religious freedom. Read more about how the House is defending religious freedom

Finding More Help for the Less Fortunate
Earlier this week, in a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, I questioned The Honorable Margaret Weichert, Deputy Director for Management of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB), on ways the government can make programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) more efficient.

Ms. Weichert contended that too large a portion of the funds allotted to these programs goes to bureaucrats and general overhead for the program. Weichert followed up on this statement by saying that the government could easily cut down on redundancies within these programs in order to provide more assistance to the individuals and families in need.

Positive outlook for manufacturers is at an all-time high! This is great news for Wisconsin's 6th district, which is America’s largest manufacturing district.

Great to meet Nabeel Quryshi in my Washington, D.C. office. He's a young man with a bright future who recently graduated from University School Milwaukee. We discussed science and how young people can get involved in political discourse.

Congratulations to Hailey Donahue of Fond du Lac! She is the Sixth District's winner of the Congressional Art Competition. This talented artist’s work is currently displayed in the Capitol.
