The Government is Funded

The House passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government over the Christmas break. This is a very short-term spending bill because we still have fine tuning to do before we finish funding for this year. This will give us a chance to work on a long-term, bipartisan spending bill.

The CR we passed on Thursday includes funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and community health centers, as well as funding for the VA Choice Program.

Let's Talk Tax

This week, the House passed the final version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1) with my support. It now sits on the President's desk to be signed into law. For more of my thoughts on the tax relief bill and how it affects Wisconsin, click here.

I spoke about the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on Fox 11. I addressed some of the concerns people have, ways it will help middle class and dispelled some of the misconceptions about the bill. Check it out here.

Hundreds of thousands of employees are already feeling the benefits of tax relief bill. Many companies including Verizon, Comcast, Wells Fargo and Fifth Third Bank have committed to investing in their employees and giving them Christmas bonuses.

Assistance for Firefighters

I have the utmost respect for the brave individuals in our community, such as firefighters and police, who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.

The FY 2017 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) application period will open on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 8 a.m. (EST) and will close on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 5 p.m. (EST).
