This week, we celebrate the first day of summer and everything the season brings with it – including family road trips. As millions of Americans drive to their vacation destinations over the next couple of months, Congress has worked to keep gas prices low by recently voting against President Obama’s proposal to add a $10-per-barrel tax on oil.
Congress rejected the president’s tax on oil producers because the additional fee would have raised energy prices, hurting the wallets of hard-working American families. In Wisconsin, where manufacturing is the backbone of our economy, higher energy prices would have also meant higher operating costs for our factories and manufacturers, and fewer jobs.
Congress will continue to fight against the president’s attempts at increasing energy costs through taxes so that families in Wisconsin, and all across America, can enjoy lower gas prices this summer and throughout the rest of the year.
