November is National Adoption Month |
Through “Voice for Adoption,” a national advocacy organization, I was paired with a constituent family in Wisconsin for the “Adoptive Family Portrait Project” in an effort to raise awareness and support National Adoption Month. This family’s picture and inspirational story has been displayed in my Washington, DC office throughout the month of November in honor of families formed through adoption.
The Streicher family story began by providing foster care for a baby named Zeke. Elizabeth, Robert and their young son Max, loved Zeke as their own, but soon learned his biological parents stepped forward to claim him. In 2011 Zeke’s birth mother asked the Streichers to take her soon-to-be born baby, and so Robert and Elizabeth brought baby Aliyah home from the hospital. Three months later the birth parents asked the Streichers to adopt Zeke as well. Several months later the Streichers were informed that another daughter was born to Zeke and Aliyah’s birth parents. A few months later Mari, came to be a part of the Streicher family in 2012. The Streicher family’s adoption journey is a great story of hope and acceptance.
