The Longest Shutdown in American History

The government shutdown is now the longest in our nation’s history, and families, workers, and small businesses in Wisconsin are feeling the effects. I voted for a clean funding bill to fully reopen the government, keep essential services running, and ensure our troops and federal employees are paid. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats continue blocking this commonsense bill—that they voted for 13 times during the Biden Administration—prolonging the shutdown and creating uncertainty for millions of Americans.

With the holidays approaching, this shutdown also threatens to cause major travel disruptions, as strained TSA and FAA resources may lead to longer wait times, staffing shortages, and flight delays for families headed to see loved ones.

Small businesses are also impacted, with limited access to federal services that help Wisconsin employers grow and hire.

House Republicans have done our job. We passed a responsible funding bill to protect taxpayers, keep essential services running, and support hardworking Americans. It’s time to put politics aside, reopen the government, and get our country back on track.

Do you support reopening the government so TSA agents and air traffic controllers are paid and air travel is reliable for the holiday season?

Visiting Local Food Banks During the Shutdown

Last week, I visited several food banks across Wisconsin’s Sixth District to see firsthand the critical work they are doing for families during this difficult time. These organizations are on the front lines, ensuring no one in our community goes hungry, especially now, as SNAP and WIC funding has lapsed due to Senate Democrats’ refusal to pass the clean funding bill that would reopen the government.

Without this funding in place, more families are turning to local food banks and community partners for help. I was inspired by the volunteers, staff, and donors who are stepping up to meet increased demand. Their compassion and commitment to serving their neighbors truly reflect the best of Wisconsin values.

I’m grateful for every individual and organization working to ensure our neighbors have access to healthy food and the resources they need during this challenging time. I will continue fighting in Washington to get the government reopened so our families receive the support they deserve.

Honoring Our Veterans & A Recent Success for a WI-06 Military Family

This Tuesday, we will pause as a nation to honor the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States of America. Veterans Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifice, commitment, and patriotism of those who have served, both at home and abroad, to defend the freedoms we hold dear. Wisconsin’s Sixth District is blessed with thousands of veterans whose courage and service have strengthened our communities and our country.

As we recognize our veterans, I want to share a recent example of how my office continues to support those who served and their families when they need help most.

Recently, a local family contacted my office after Master Sergeant Frank G., an Army veteran, had his military retirement pay halted without clear explanation. His son, Greg, spent six months trying to work with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) to reinstate his father’s benefits. Despite submitting the required paperwork multiple times, DFAS provided conflicting guidance and continued to reject the forms, leaving this family without the earned benefits they deserve.

After Greg reached out to my office on July 31, we immediately intervened with DFAS on their behalf. I’m pleased to share that on November 3, DFAS fully reinstated MSG G.’s retirement payments and issued all back pay owed to him.

Stories like this are exactly why constituent services are a top priority for me. Our veterans and their families have sacrificed so much for us. When bureaucracy gets in the way, they deserve an advocate who will fight for them.

As we commemorate Veterans Day, please join me in thanking all who have served our country. If you or a veteran you know needs assistance navigating federal agencies or accessing benefits you have earned, my office stands ready to help.

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the RCS Empowers Shine On Gala. It was inspiring to see the incredible work this organization does on full display. RCS Empowers plays a vital role in helping individuals with disabilities and special needs live, work, and thrive with dignity and respect. I’m grateful for the dedicated staff, families, and community members who make their mission possible.

I had a great time attending Fond du Lac Morning Rotary’s Wine Around the World event last weekend. This annual gathering supports an outstanding cause, with proceeds benefiting the Read 4 Life program. It was wonderful to see our community come together in support of literacy and lifelong learning.
