For those of you who read my newsletter each week, you may remember my bill, the Air America Act, which will ensure the brave Americans who are former employees of Air America receive the federal retirement benefits and recognition they have earned.

The last time I gave you on update on this bill, it had around 100 bipartisan cosponsors. Today, I am pleased to inform you that my bill now has over 200 bipartisan cosponsors. The wide-ranging support among my colleagues goes to show that it is long past time we formally recognize these patriots as federal employees and give them official recognition for their service to our country. Air Americans risked their lives, many of them giving their life, fighting communism in the same way members of the Air Force did. 

We have an Air American right here in the Sixth District, Neil Hansen of Oshkosh. Neil flew undercover missions during the Cold War for Air America, which at the time was portrayed as a privately-owned company but was actually an undercover operation managed by the the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Because of the secrecy of the operation, it was not revealed that they were federal employees until after the documentation was declassified in 2017. Thus, these brave Air Americans, like Neil, were never afforded federal retirement benefits or official recognition for their service.

I hope that this bill is quickly brought to the House floor for a vote so we can officially recognize Neil and other heroic Air Americans.

The Future Farmers of America (FFA) specializes in providing young adults with the tools needed for a lifetime of success in the agricultural community. In Wisconsin, this organization helps prepare our youth to sustain and grow the more than 64,000 farms in our state.

By playing a role in preparing our next generation of leaders in Wisconsin food and agriculture, the Wisconsin Association of FFA has contributed to making our state the dairy capital of the world.

As your Representative, I have made a conscious effort to support farmers and I am always happy to meet with the FFA. Along with nearly 100 of my colleagues, I am proud to share I am an original cosponsor of a resolution designating February 19-26, 2022, as National FFA Week.

In addition to Wisconsin’s famous dairy industry, Wisconsin farmers grow outstanding crops, such as corn, soybeans, potatoes, and cranberries, and put food on the tables of families across the country. Wisconsin’s agriculture sector remains a strong and vibrant part of our state and national economies, and I will continue to do everything I can to aid our next generation of Wisconsin farmers. Happy National FFA Week!

During a visit to Cardinal FG in Portage, I was fascinated to see firsthand how glass is manufactured right here in the Sixth District. Thank you to the kind employees for welcoming me into your facility.
