We’ve all seen the news headlines over the past two years — Keystone XL Pipeline cancelled, gas prices reach record highs, home heating bills through the roof, and our Strategic Petroleum Reserve drained and sold to China. It is clear that these relentless efforts to block American energy production have set our nation on the wrong path.

As businesses, workers, and families are paying more to fill their tanks and heat their homes, I'd like your feedback on our government’s energy philosophy.

President Biden’s harmful energy policies remain a key driver behind burdensome price increases for American households, which is why my colleagues and I are urging him to change his vision surrounding energy production. This week, we will took an important step toward restoring America’s energy security by passing H.R. 1, the Lowering Energy Costs Act to lower prices for you and once again make America energy independent.

Specifically, this legislation aims to:

• Expand production of American natural gas, oil, and other forms of energy 
• Lower gas prices and energy bills 
• Reduce reliance on foreign-sourced critical minerals
• Create sustainable, well-paying jobs

The first sensible step toward lowering energy costs is to incentivize energy production here in America. Cutting domestic production over the past two years predictably led to record high gas prices across the country, and it is unacceptable. The Lowering Energy Costs Act takes the much-needed step to restore American energy independence and lower energy costs.

Until the Biden administration reverses course and increases domestic oil and gas production, the ongoing energy crisis will only become more severe.

This week, the House Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services held a hearing to conduct oversight on the failures within the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that led to the nationwide shortage of baby formula.

During the hearing, I spoke with Mr. Frank Yiannis, a renowned food safety expert who served as FDA Deputy Commissioner for Food Policy and Response from 2018 to 2023. Together, we identified the root causes of the shortage and how the FDA can prevent a crisis of this magnitude in the future. After speaking with Mr. Yiannis, it is evident that dysfunction at the FDA intensified the infant formula crisis.

The United States military has one critical purpose: to keep American citizens safe both at home and abroad. Unfortunately, over the past several years, there has been anguish among members of our armed forces due to the Department of Defense’s politically driven priorities that may impact our national security.

As Chairman of the House Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs, I held a hearing to investigate the overall quality of our military’s readiness under the leadership and priorities of the Biden Administration. Our witnesses included Jeremy Hunt, a former Military Intelligence Officer, Brent Sadler of the Center for National Defense, and Meaghan Mobbs of the Independent Women's Forum.

Throughout the hearing, Jeremy Hunt applied his experience as a former Army Captain to shine a light of on the divisive ideology being infused into our military. Progressive ideologies are weakening the quality of our military’s readiness and harming our men and women in uniform, and it’s a problem that deserves to be discussed. Thank you to Mr. Hunt for continuing to speak out about this after joining my Subcommittee hearing.
