Last weekend, I was disgusted and horrified to learn of Hamas terrorists invading Israel. The goal of Hamas appears solely to spread terror and death among the Israeli people, which is pure evil. There is no other time in recent memory in which an invasion was to solely target civilians, specifically women and children.
In light of this heinous attack, the Biden Administration's recent deal with Iran to free five Americans has warranted scrutiny because it provided a massive cash infusion – $6 billion – to Iran, a foreign adversary, who directly funded the Hamas attack. In September, as Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security, the Border, and Foreign Affairs, I conducted a hearing to examine the Biden Administration’s flawed Iran policies. Even before Israel was attacked, the decision to free up $6 billion for the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism was reckless and dangerous. This week, the White House temporarily revoked Iran's access to the $6 billion account following my call on them to do so to ensure no U.S. taxpayer dollars are weaponized to fund terrorism.
Additionally, it appears the Biden Administration has employed officials with apparent sympathetic ties to Iran in secret negotiations regarding its nuclear program. Along with Congressman James Comer (R-KY), Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, I have spearheaded an investigation into any negotiations the U.S. has had with the Iranian regime under the Biden Administration. It is clear that President Biden's actions toward Iran represent a series of failed foreign policy decisions, and the American people deserve transparency due to the far-reaching national security implications of a nuclear Iran.
Considering Iran's long history of supporting and sponsoring terrorism, the United States must hold Iran accountable for its role in the invasion of Israel by Hamas terrorists. I am proud to come together with over 400 of my colleagues as a cosponsor of a bipartisan resolution to condemn Hamas’ brutal war against Israel. During this time, we must stand firm in our support for Israel, our strongest ally in the Middle East, and help ensure its security and stability in the face of violence perpetuated by Iranian-backed Hamas.
