Following the unprovoked terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas, there have been multiple instances of students and professors engaging in anti-Israel protests in which they have repeatedly called for violence against the Jewish community and engaged in outright antisemitism.
Unfortunately, universities are a breeding ground for pro-Hamas rhetoric due to the lack of intellectual diversity and university administrators’ reluctance to immediately condemn all acts of antisemitism. Between October 7 and October 23, there were reportedly 54 antisemitic incidents on campuses, of which 43 could be directly linked to the situation with Hamas in Israel. Across the United States, we have seen a reported 388 percent increase in antisemitic incidents of harassment, vandalism, and assault.
In a hearing this week with the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, I reinforced the urgent need to confront the anti-Jew hatred on campus. Antisemitism has no place in America, especially on college campuses in the presence of Jewish students. Universities must combat antisemitism, not promote it.
