Bureaucrats Still Teleworking?

This past week, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability held a hearing to conduct oversight of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) with Deputy Director for Management Jason Miller. OMB is tasked with drafting the President’s budget request, managing federal agencies, and implementing the president’s policies across the executive branch. This means that in all facets of the federal government – whether it’s processing tax returns, delivering Social Security checks, or securing the southern border – OMB plays a role.

During the hearing, I highlighted OMB’s failure to get government employees back into the office and how widespread telework policies have led to less effective governance. Deputy Director Miller stated for the record that having 50% of employees show up to the office was an achievement for the federal government.

This stands in stark contrast to the private sector where employees across the country have continued to show up to work in-person. It’s simply unacceptable that government employees, who are there to serve you, the American people, only show up to the office half the time.

It is clear that OMB must correct these misguided telework policies to ensure the federal government is operating effectively for all Americans. Under oath, Deputy Director Miller made a commitment to provide the Committee with updated information, documents, and data on federal employee telework. My colleagues and I will continue to hold OMB accountable and conduct oversight to ensure the federal government is being well-managed and operating with Americans’ best interests in mind.

Congressional App Challenge

The annual Congressional App Challenge (CAC) has officially started! The challenge

presents an opportunity for middle and high school students in the Sixth District to showcase their coding skills on the national stage. Every year, the CAC invites students across the country to submit an app in its annual coding competition.

The winner from the Sixth District, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will have their app featured on the CAC website. The winning app will also be eligible to be on display for visitors of the U.S. Capitol, along with other winning apps from across the country.

The competition is designed to promote innovation and engagement in computer science and coding. Students who plan to participate must register online and submit their app by October 24, 2024.

I encourage all students in the Sixth District with an interest in computer programming to design and submit an app in this annual coding competition.

To learn more about the rules and registration, visit the Congressional App Challenge page on my website.

Fix the Debt : 2024 Fiscal Hero Award

I am honored to have been one of the recipients of the "2024 Fiscal Hero" award by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. Every year Fiscal Heroes are awarded to recognize policymakers working to improve the nation's fiscal situation and fix the budget process.

It was an honor to be recognized for my work to reduce the debt, spearhead bipartisan solutions, engage constituents on our overspending at town hall meetings, advocate for tough choices, and introduce legislation for fiscal improvement. Everyday of every second our national debt is increasing and I am committed to leading efforts to halt this trend.

I will continue to fight for policies that support and better the nation's fiscal situation and in the long term make your life better!
