As your Representative, I am a proud member of the Election Integrity Caucus, where my colleagues and I are focused on addressing election security and restoring public faith in our election system. 

In order to preserve our constitutional republic, Americans in every state must have confidence in accurate and transparent elections. Free and fair elections are a cornerstone of the American experiment, and voting is one of the most sacred rights and responsibilities we have as Americans.

Currently, states are responsible for administering elections as outlined by the Constitution. Enter H.R. 5746, the poorly named “Freedom to Vote” Act. This is a watered down version of a bill that passed the House last year, H.R. 1, which I told you about in one of my previous newsletters. Under H.R. 5746, our election system in the United States would be transformed by taking power delegated to the states under our Constitution and placing it in the hands of the federal government and the bureaucrats in Washington, DC.

Specifically, this bill would:

• Force states to legalize ballot harvesting, which is a voting method specifically vulnerable to fraud by allowing political operatives to go to voters' homes, collect absentee ballots, and drop them off at a polling place or election office.
• Transform the office of the U.S. Attorney General into an unelected, unaccountable "Elections Czar" with the power to change state elections law and circumvent state constitutional processes.
• Disregard state voter ID laws, including Wisconsin's.
• Give billions of taxpayer dollars to fund political campaigns.
• Make it harder for states to maintain their voter lists.
• Allow the IRS to investigate and consider the political and policy persuasions of organizations before granting tax-exempt status.

Unfortunately, this bill passed the House on a party-line vote on Thursday. Allowing one party to re-write election law in the United States will destroy our institutions by damaging millions of Americans’ faith in our democratic process. Let's remember: 2020 saw the highest voter turnout in 120 years. There is clearly no widespread "voter suppression" issue in this country.

In the spring of last year, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) began issuing migrants who illegally crossed our Southern border a document known as a "Notice to Report". With this form, migrants apprehended illegally trying to cross into the U.S. are set free in the United States, but they are required to report to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office within 60 days.

This week, we learned just how flawed this system really is. The Biden Administration released a bombshell report revealing nearly 50,000 illegal migrants who were released into the country with a "Notice to Report" failed to report to ICE. Thus, they have vanished into the United States without sufficient processing, background check, or hearing in front of an immigration court. In 2021, there were over 1.7 million encounters with illegal immigrants at our Southern border, it's hard to imagine why President Biden is not making border security, and fixing our broken immigration system, a top priority.

In support of our ICE officials, I joined my Republican colleagues on the House Oversight Committee in calling for a probe into the Biden Administration’s guidance restricting interior immigration enforcement. I signed onto a letter to Tae D. Johnson, the Acting Director of ICE, requesting documents on the instruction from DHS to ICE that restricted the ability of ICE officials to enforce our immigration laws inside our borders. This erroneous guidance has made it significantly more challenging for ICE to arrest and remove illegal aliens from the United States.

While President Biden continues his inaction, I will continue to shed light on this humanitarian crisis at our southern border and work toward a safe, fair, and legal immigration system that prioritizes people’s safety over politics.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court finally came to a decision regarding President Biden's rule, issued through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, that would require private businesses with at least 100 employees to either mandate their workers receive a COVID-19 vaccine or subject them to frequent testing.

While it is good news that the Supreme Court issued a stay blocking the Biden Administration’s vaccine mandate for private businesses, I am disappointed the court upheld the mandate for workers in federally-funded healthcare facilities. The Justices imply that the vaccine prevents these workers from transmitting the virus to their patients, meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has acknowledged that no vaccine is capable of preventing the transmission of COVID-19. Because of this reality, there is scarce logic behind forcing vaccinations upon these healthcare workers, especially those that have developed natural antibodies, which likely provides superior immunity than vaccine-induced immunity.
