One Month into the Government Shutdown

The federal government has now been shut down for over a month, and families across Wisconsin are feeling the effects.

On September 19, I voted for a clean funding bill to fully fund the government - ensuring our troops are paid, essential services remain available, and critical programs continue to operate.

Unfortunately, Senate Democrats have now voted against reopening the government 14 times. Each “no” vote keeps the government closed, stalls key programs, and creates uncertainty for families and businesses across our state.

This funding bill also included support to keep programs like WIC and SNAP operating. Without Senate action, however, funding for these programs is set to run out today, November 1, leaving vulnerable families wondering what comes next.

The House has already done its job. We passed a responsible, taxpayer-focused bill to keep the government running and protect essential programs. It’s long past time for Senate Democrats to do the same and put hardworking Americans before politics.

Should Senate Democrats vote in favor of the House-passed funding bill so Wisconsin families can continue receiving SNAP and WIC benefits after November 1?

Yes - it’s time to reopen the government and protect essential programs.

No - I support the continued shutdown.

Telephone Town Hall Recap

Over the past two weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to connect directly with residents from across Wisconsin’s Sixth District through a series of three telephone town halls.

We hosted one for residents throughout the district, another for Fond du Lac County, and a third for Manitowoc and Calumet Counties. Each call focused on answering your important questions about the ongoing government shutdown and sharing updates on what I’m doing in Washington to serve the Sixth District.

In addition to discussing the current situation in Congress, we covered a range of topics important to our community, from supporting the local economy and protecting taxpayers to the constituent services my office provides to assist with issues involving federal agencies, veterans’ benefits, Social Security, and more.

I’m grateful to everyone who took the time to join the conversation, ask thoughtful questions, and share feedback. These discussions help guide my work and ensure your voice is heard in Washington.

If you need support dealing with a federal agency, please contact my office HERE.

Honoring our First Responders

On Tuesday, we celebrated National First Responders Day, a time to recognize the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe.

Every day, Wisconsin’s first responders answer the call, from firefighters and police officers to EMTs and 911 dispatchers, showing extraordinary courage and compassion in moments of crisis. Their service keeps our neighborhoods strong and our families safe.

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all first responders across Wisconsin’s Sixth District, and to the families who support them. Your dedication and sacrifice do not go unnoticed. Thank you for all you do to keep our communities safe.

Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Manitowoc Marina, an impressive full-service marina and boatyard right on the shores of Lake Michigan. This beautiful facility plays an important role in supporting our region’s boating community and local economy.

I recently toured Redline Plastics in Manitowoc, winner of the “Top of the Line Workplace” award at the Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year Awards, and it’s easy to see why. With roots in Manitowoc dating back to 1922, Redline has been a leader in Wisconsin manufacturing for over a century. It was great to visit and see their continued innovation firsthand.

I had a great visit to Kohn’s Filling Station, where I toured their impressive store, got some behind-the-counter training, and even helped a few folks fill up their gas tanks. The visit was full of Wisconsin hospitality, and I always enjoy seeing the hard work and dedication of our Sixth District businesses in action.
