On March 24, 2015, Trooper Trevor Casper’s life was tragically cut short as he became the youngest police officer to be killed in the line of duty in our state’s history. While faithfully serving his community on his first solo assignment, Trevor was shot and killed in Fond du Lac attempting to apprehend a bank robbery and murder suspect.
As a longtime resident of Kiel, Trevor was a staple in the community through wrestling, soccer, and coaching youth sports. After graduating from Kiel High School with the class of 2011, Trevor attended Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2014.
This week, I led the entire Wisconsin Congressional delegation on legislation to designate the U.S. Post Office located on Fremont Street in Kiel as the “Trooper Trevor J. Casper Post Office Building. Renaming this post office in his honor serves as a lasting tribute to this young man who was unwavering in his commitment to keeping our streets safe.
Trooper Casper’s sacrifice should remind us all of the tremendous debt of gratitude we owe to our law enforcement officers. Let us remember Trooper Casper’s heroism and his dedication to duty, and let us honor his memory by supporting those who continue to serve and protect our great state of Wisconsin.
