The best gift a child can receive is loving parents who instill strong moral values and support their emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Through a healthy family structure, children receive the foundation for future success.
That is why it is crucial for parents to be kept in the loop and have a voice in their children's education. Parents are the primary stakeholders in raising their children. It is not the right or responsibility of the government or individual teachers to insert themselves in conversations that should be had between a parent and their child.
Recently, however, parents who spoke out at local school board meetings in defense of the integrity their child's education were targeted by the Justice Department. Soon after, the Biden Administration worked alongside the National School Boards Association on a letter that compared concerned parents to “domestic terrorists”.
Because of this and other instances of schools shutting out parents, I am fighting to revitalize an America that empowers parents. That is why I was proud to vote for the Parents Bill of Rights this week to restore the rights of parents surrounding their children's education because parents know what is best for their children — not the government. While this bill is coming from the federal level, it was thoughtfully crafted to not exert federal power over the issues that rightfully belong in the hands of state and local governments.
Specifically, this bill restores the:
- Right to know what’s being taught in schools and to see reading material
- Right to be heard
- Right to see the school budget
- Right to protect their child’s privacy
- Right to be updated on any violent activity at school
Parents have a God-given right to make decisions for their children. With some lawmakers in Washington fighting against the rights of parents, this bill will protect parents' place in education.
We must empower parents with transparency, respect, and choice. Our kids deserve it.
